An absolute joy to read. I would die for these characters. I wept by the end. ♥️

I knew within the first two chapters that this would be a 5 star read. I don’t really cry when I read books, but I cried when I finished this book. It is such a great book. It really did feel like “being wrapped in a  big gay blanket.”

The narration reminds me of Good Omens. There is a quick dry observational humor that I really enjoy. The whimsy reminds me of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, the nice parts of A Series of Unfortunate Events, Finding Neverland, and James and the Giant Peach.

The characters were so alive. I could hear their voices coming out of the pages.

Beautiful storytelling. I wish I could read it for the first time again.

A good story that felt like the author was deliberately lowering the stakes throughout. Felt almost in YA in that regard. The children’s characters were lovely and the book did make me feel something, but I was ultimately left wanting for what could have been a more exciting book with very few changes otherwise.

For example, why make Arthur a Phoenix if he wasn’t to die and be reborn? Why also make a whole fuss out of Arthur “using” extremely upper management when there was no deception involved? It just felt like the situation could have been made more tense which would have led to a more satisfying ending.

“i'm afraid i don't have magic."
"you do, mr. baker. arthur told me that there can be magic in the ordinary.”

this book was so sweet and wholesome and just what i was looking for. i love the dynamic between the kids of marysas island (especially lucy - his morbid sense of humor is absolutely delightful) and arthur parnassus himself.

i loved reading linus’ character development over the course of the book - it was just so wholesome, just like his relationship with arthur.

sal was another kid who held a special place in my heart - he was just so sweet and shy despite his tragic backstory.

i literally have no complaints at all - the characters were amazing, the world brilliant and magical, and the story just so quirky and fun to read.
