4 stars for story
5 stars for narration

It's no secret that I think Sandra Brown and Viktor Slezak are a match made in audiobook heaven. From the time I stumbled on the combination with Envy (still my favorite romantic suspense audiobook of all time) I have enjoyed the pairing of this great romantic suspense author with such a talented narrator. Seeing Red is no exception.

The story was a little more convoluted than some of Brown's other books, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, here the layers did get confusing at times. Many conversations are frustrating because it's obvious everyone is hiding something, and figuring out what is being hidden was almost impossible from the clues given. But that's par for the course for suspense. What drops this story from 5 to 4 stars for me is mostly one specific buildup that had no payoff.
SpoilerRepeatedly through the book it is surmised that the attack on the Major and Kerra happened because someone feared what they might remember about the bombing if they swapped stories. Obviously, someone thought it could be a potentially dangerous remembrance; enough to kill for. But at the end, we are never told of any possible memory that could have endangered anyone. I was left waiting for the reveal that didn't happen and was never mentioned at the end.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the characters and the suspense plot.

As always, Slezak's narration is near perfection.

This was a great read. Pulled me in from beginning to end with lots of twists and suspicions of who was dirty and who wasn’t. And then it become to what level. This story was very well written and kept me engaged and involved with the story from very early on trying to figure out the intricate pieces and happenings going on. I really enjoyed this one.

DNF at 174 pages. Trapper is an ass and I don't like him at all. The story is compelling enough, but I think the writing just ain't doing it for me. It feels like it's dragging, even though there's action. I just can't.

I was a little underwhelmed with Sandra Brown’s Seeing Red. I feel like the lawman hero, journalist heroine, bad guy twist has been done many times before, and it’s getting old now. However, it’s always fun when Ms. Brown uses Dallas/Fort Worth as the setting for her story. Overall, this one was just alright, nothing special.

Brown's formula for great novels continues to work with Seeing Red. Broody misunderstood macho main lead and a whipsmart woman lead who spend 75% of the book yearning for each other. Not necessarily my favourite by Brown, but definitely a page turner with a plot twist I didn't see coming.
