Seeing Red

I am sucker for all things Sandra Brown and after seeing the synopsis for Seeing Red; I couldn’t wait to delve into her latest romantic suspense. I’ve read all of Brown’s books in this genre, and this is one of her best. It’s a fast paced and thrilling ride. There are plenty of interesting twists and turns, along with a slow burning romance that had me glued to my Kindle.

Kerra is an intelligent and fierce heroine, and I adored her completely. I was somewhat unsure of Trapper in the beginning, but he quickly won me over. I couldn’t get enough of the chemistry between these two. Their banter and disdain for one another creates the best sexual tension. This something Brown has always excelled at and why I continue to read her books year after year.

“Kindly leave.”
“I don’t do anything kindly.”
“That I can certify.”

Brown’s books are always entertaining, but the suspense side can be predictable. However, I was impressed with the mystery and suspense aspect in this book. I was proven wrong on a few occasions and was completely engrossed with the storyline. If you enjoy romantic suspense; this is one I’d definitely recommend!

A reporter and the son of a reclusive Major investigate the bombing that made his father a national hero. There's something about SB's rude, broody alpha heroes that really appeals to me. Trapper is brazen, stubborn, yet charming and protective at the same time. Kerra is intrepid, spirited and brilliant, and his match in every way. The book hits the ground running, and the intensity between these two is off the charts.

The attraction between them is sizzling, especially when they argue/fight. I loved the build up of the delicious sexual tension, and the payoff is 🔥. It's not high steam, but the intimate scenes are hot as hell. Trapper's (rare) sweet side is very endearing, and the quieter moments where they really connect are great. The suspense is full of classic SB twists, and I enjoyed it to the max.

I am never disappointed with Sandra Brown books, this one kept me excited to turn the page. It starts off with an exclusive interview with a local hero and a reporter who is actually the young girl he saved during a terror attack. With them both in the hospital it is left to the hero's jilted son Trapper, to find out who tried to kill them. Trapper has always had to live in the shadow of his father, being disappointed with everything his father has missed due to his fame.

He still doesn't want him dead. He also started an investigation into what happened during the terror attack and he feels close to finding the evidence he needs but it leads to men with a lot of power, blackmail and people with a lot to lose. Lots of chemistry with Trapper and the female reporter.

Action packed, keeps you guessing, and I didn't figure out the ending until it unfolded.

I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book reminded me why i absolutely love Sandra Brown and why i devoured most of her books in secondary school. Romance with edge of your seat thriller? I LOVE IT!!!
The plot was incredibly fast paced which was a huge plus. Brown pulled off all the shockers like the pro that she is.

That being said i do wish she would mix it up with the whole FBI Agent thing. If you read Brown's work a lot, you know there's always, like clockwork an undecover FBI Agent somewhere in the mix or the FBI somehow gets involved. Really wonder why she likes the Bureau so much.

FBI sheninigans aside, this really was one heck of an enjoyable novel.

Loved the plot twists and turns. Reminds me of older SB books I used to love like Mirror Mirror. So good

I'm a fan of Sandra Brown but I felt this fell short of her usual mark. Seeing Red is a romantic suspense that I found neither particularly romantic nor suspenseful.

Twenty-five years ago, the Major emerged a hero from the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel. He was catapulted into the spotlight after he was photographed leading a handful of survivors out of the collapsing building, including a little girl whose identity was fiercely guarded. Now a TV journalist on the rise, Kerra Bailey will do anything to score an interview with her hero...even if she has to wrangle an introduction from his estranged son, former ATF agent John Trapper.

Despite John's reticence, Kerra's persistence pays off and the Major grants her an exclusive interview...the first time he's been in the public spotlight for years. However, the night of the interview things go catastrophically wrong and both John and Kerra must race against time to figure out just who wants her and the Major dead.

While the premise was intriguing enough, I couldn't connect to either of the main characters so the romance side of things never clicked. Quite frankly, I couldn't understand why Kerra was ever interested in Trapper in the first place. There's grumpy alpha-male and then there's asshole. (Guess which I felt Trapper fit?)

Even if the romance had been left out, I'm not altogether sure it would have raised my rating much. A successful suspense drives me crazy because it feeds me piecemeal clues to keep me guessing. (Seriously, I love spoilers and not having all of the information is painful.) That didn't happen, it all wrapped up way too suddenly and, while there were some twists and turns that I didn't see coming, the "major reveal" felt off. I don't understand, even after the explanation, what drove this character to be so...out of character.

Overall, a very meh read but I'm in the minority. If you're a Sandra Brown fan, maybe you'll feel differently.

45/5 stars.

At the 25th anniversary of the Pegasus bombing Kerra Bailey, a local reporter wants to interview the national hero Major Franklin Trapper, who saved along with others a 5-year-old girl from the building. The Major though had refused all interviews the past few years and Kerra’s only hope to meet the Major was through his son, John Trapper ,an ex ATF officer who now ran a detective agency. After the interview an attempt was made at Kerra and the Major’s life which led to a non stop action with murder, kidnapping , FBI , Texas Rangers and a shady lawyer all thrown in the mix.

This was a great romantic suspense by Sandra Brown that I finished in a few hours. It has a lots of twists and turns with a few surprises at the end. The sarcastic banter between Trapper and Kerra along with the sizzling romance and with non-stop actin makes this book quite an entertaining read that I would recommend to all mystery lovers.
