Overall, the characters (good & bad) were interesting. I liked the twisted background for the predator. He wasn't just a cookie cutter evil.
The thing I wasn't expecting was the romance being the main plot and the crimes being a subplot. This is the kind of story that I would expect for a romance thriller. =)

I found out that I loved thisbook. it was really scary and kept me up at night, however it ended so abruptly. I didn't like that which is why I gave it only 4 stars.
Its horror seems to only derive from violence - not really my cup of tea.

This was truly one of the creepiest books I had ever read. Dean Koontz is just so good.

Wow! The first book Dean Koontz wrote that sold well enough to allow him to write full time. Great characters that are well-developed, a strong sense of place and a genuine horror story that is all the scarier because there are no supernatural elements.
Dico sempre che un horror è ottimo quando fa comunque paura anche togliendo l'elemento soprannaturale; ho anche detto che Outsider di King mi ha delusa perché aveva un buon potenziale per essere un thriller serio ed accattivante, ma l'ha voluto risolvere col soprannaturale e mi ha rovinato il buon sapore dell'inizio del libro.
Ecco, Sussurri fa un eccellente lavoro nel creare tutte le premesse per un horror con i demoni, e fa ancora più paura nel momento in cui si scopre che di mostri con corna e squame non ce ne sono. La parte poliziesca del romanzo mi è piaciuta veramente tanto, ma SANTO CIELO Koontz e King dovrebbero seriamente fondare un circolo di Misogini Anonimi e fare uno di quei processi di disintossicazione, che abbia come primo passo: "smettere di descrivere le donne come abbiamo sempre fatto". Non è possibile che OGNI SINGOLA DONNA sia un buco in cui ficcarsi o un anello in cui ficcare un dito (gesto atto ad ogni modo all'impadronirsi legalmente del suddetto buco), persino le commesse che appaiono per un paragrafo e soprattutto le VECCHIE.
C'è una linea affatto sottile tra un libro con dei personaggi misogini e un libro misogino. I personaggi possono dire tutte le cose orrende che vogliono, su qualunque argomento, e così facendo denunciare un comportamento sbagliato (omofobo, razzista, o quel che l'è); ma quando è il narratore esterno ed onnisciente a definire le donne, e cito, "pratici contenitori di sperma", si sta facendo un enorme passo oltre questa linea, e si sta puntando il piede verso un'immensa pila di schifo.

When I first started reading this book I was not impressed, it did not live up to what I was expecting. After the first 100 pages though the story got a lot better and I am glad I did not stop reading it sooner. The only problem I really had was when he was describing the sex scenes.
