I'm glad I'm able to read the complete collection on Kindle Unlimited since each book ends on a cliffhanger (of course, the author would want you to buy the next book lol).

Yes, it's another The Selection bachelor competition trope. However, unlike other books of the same trope, there is no "go on a date with the bachelor" moment. The goal of the competition is to essentially not die and maybe you'll get to marry the bachelor in the end. I give it a solid 3-stars. Not bad, but not the best thing I've ever read either. A nice break from the emotional damage caused by other books I've read recently. The mystery surrounding Persy's past with Hades drives the story forward as the two try to rekindle their past romance.

The smut is meh in my opinion. It seems like the author put in those scenes just to meet the most minimal of requirements of a romance. There are also a couple of grammatical errors that grate on this former copy editor. However, I was entertained by the characters and the storyline. It's a different take on the Persephone x Hades story and not a bad one at that.

Spice scale (as defined by Mysterious Galaxy):

New rendition

I'm glad I read this as one book, as opposed to three separate books. It's definitely more cohesive that way, and probably should have been written as such. I thoroughly enjoyed a new version of the tale of Persephone and Hades, that really was quite different. The writing was pretty good, allow a few words were used oddly. I don't know if that was on purpose, or an error but it was hard to ignore. I enjoyed the characters, and the story didn't follow the predictable path that it could have. I fully recommend this to anyone looking for a new take on an old tale.

3.5 out of 5 stars from me!

Zeus is going to hold another Trial, where women of all kinds, will compete for the honor of becoming the new Queen of the Underworld, wife of Hades.

Her catch? She's a mortal who has no memory of her past, and has just been kidnapped. Hades is tired of the competitions and is going through the motions. His catch? This seemingly mortal is more than she seems.

This trilogy, despite being over 600 pages was a quick and easy read for me, I will admit, I feel like the books could have been condensed into perhaps 2 books.

Having a competition to be Hades wife was an interesting twist to the mythology that I love, but it got a bit repetitive to me, as it was 3 books.

It was nice to see a breath of new life into the Greek gods that we know so well, it was a welcome change of pace. But, there is only so much that you can do, Hades will always be dark and brooding, Zeus always full of himself.

Sadly, this is one of the more forgettable of the Retellings that I've read recently as I'm writing this review a few months after reading it, but I will be rereading it again when I get a chance, as it was good, despite its flaws.

One of them being the smut, it wasn't too much of a slow burn, but it was just meh for me.

The plot was exciting enough, again, a tournament was a good change of pace, there was potential hidden in the many pages, it was just a tedious 600 pages.

I will be reading the other books in the series, I am interested to see what she will do with the other Gods.

If I could rate it 6 ⭐️ I would! I am a sucker for Hades and Persephone retellings, and this one might just be the best! The book absolutely stole my heart, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series!
