Did it have the potential to be a 5 But it wasn't. Not for me at least.
read?
Yes
The way it started, it was a little bumpy but I liked it and my expectations rose. Maybe that's why I was disappointed by the time I finished the book
I did like the sweet gestures made by the MMC. And how supportive he was.
There were a few things that got on my nerves. I understand that India's tradition should be explained to the readers as all may not know about it but making the main character seem clueless about her own culture didn't make sense to me. Like wdym she doesn't know what happens in navratri and diwali and needs her" married" friends to explain it to her. Wasn't she home during those festivals and watching her mom perform anything?
And also the fact that married women were pin pointed so many times as an elite club kinda got on my nerves
And the way Deepak's personality did a 180 gave me whiplash!
How did he go from a shy, nervous guy who couldn't even talk to his wife about the time they slept together in one bed for a week go from this to spanking her and suddenly becoming an exhibitionist all of a sudden
Also the way 'romance' was thrown around made me cringe. ' trying to romance you', ' if he romance me like that... Nope, not for me

I am not a diehard Shakespeare stan. I cannot insult you with Shakespearean quotes, I haven't read the majority of his tragedies (or even most of his comedies), and my understanding of the Shakespeare historical era are weak at best. However, none of that is true when it comes to Twelfth Night, which is the only play I've read multiple times, and for my own personal enjoyment. And I've got to be honest, while I love a good fake romance/marriage of convenience set in the modern era, this didn't deliver that Twelfth Night goodness that I wanted. I was entranced and reading it because I loved Veera and the assorted cast of characters we've met since the start of this series, but somewhere around the grand declaration of love I just wasn't having it anymore. Certainly recommended if you enjoyed the first two books in this series, or Nisha Sharma books in general, but it wasn't my favorite.

I just needed a giggle, a laugh, a grin. Sharma delivered. Simple.
Out of the three men, I think I related to Deepak the most (except for the rich part, and the successful part, and the arranged marriage part, okay maybe we’re not the most in common… ); but I genuinely related to his thoughts and behaviors because I’ve had the same. I’ve been in those positions. I get it. I’m glad he was able find something between him and Veera. My wife is my best friend; Deepak and Veera just had to realize they could be both best friends and partners.
Now to the spice: less than the previous two, but I also caught myself skipping the spice to get to the banter because if Nisha Sharma knows one thing, it’s BANTER! I caught myself yelling (cackling) “SAAAAME” while reading.
I truly believe its the best way that Sharma could have remade the Shakespearean stories she wanted to share. If there’s one thing the South Asian culture does well, it’s take their generational trauma and make jokes out of it.
Also I should mention, a big middle finger to Veera’s dad. We all know that one Indian uncle. You know who he is.

Probably my favorite couple from the series. They were so sweet together. But the plot got a little boring with the CEO drama and I wished there was a bit more tension throughout.

So overall it was fun and I enjoyed it. The first half was better IMO, and the second half felt like random, and not fully thought out.
Overall I enjoyed the first half a lot more, the plot was MOVIN I. The beginning and so many cute funny scenes happened and I felt the connection to the characters and I felt the yearning. The fake marriage scene I feel was so beautiful and I thought it was cute.
Then they got to the part back home after they devised the stay married plot and I feel it feel apart a little. Like they added spice before the characters discussed their true feelings and like girl… these people are close enough and old enough to discuss how they feel so I was a bit annoyed about that. Also the spice felt a bit… unnecessary. Like there were 3 main scenes, first one was fine, 2nd unnecessary, 3rd- annoying bc they should have talked more before starting.
The other issue I had with the second half is that I kept feeling like I was missing something. Multiple times I had to go back to make sure I didn’t skip a scene because it felt like I was missing context from a previous chapter. Then, the ending felt just a bit weird. Like I the book is based on the 12th night which idk anything about, so I assumed that she was trying to fit her book to the plot of the play, but it just felt weird. There were also flip flopping tones I felt, about like the FMC and her role as a wife, like she was traditional and not I felt, more so than any of the other characters.
Also, it took too much time to wrap up the whole take over aspect of the company. I am glad there was no 3rd act break up (sidenote I was waiting for a 3rd act break up and felt antsy the whole time I was reading it- those suck and I hate reading them and I hate that I feel like all romance books I read have them) but there were too many plans going on and I was just like yeah yeah whatever.
Also, the conflict between the 3 girlie friends was not as fleshed out and it was slightly off.
Overall the book was fine and the first half carried but it wasn’t terrible. It was fun, cute, finished in 2/3 days. I really enjoyed reading about the traditional ceremonies, that was my fav part, and they felt very sincere and beautiful through the writing.
*edit I do like friends to lovers, and I liked that we didn’t have to see to much of homegirl just pinning, and got to the part where they were pinning over each other, so that helped*
