Struggled to finish this one - lots of boring slog and the jokes fell flat for me compared to the first book. Felt pretty repetitive at times too

Excellent story, even better than the first in the series. Full of action, adventure, well written dialogue and quips galore. I love the schemes and plots the Gentlemen Bastards think up. The world is so well realized and detailed. The narration is perfect, you never hear anything but the author's voice.

I would give it more stars if I had anywhere to stick them.

I enjoyed a good portion of this book, but there were some major issues I had with some common tropes that were utilized for no apparent reason beyond a cheap bid for emotional attachment.  In addition, it just seems like there are several loose ends that were introduced and just, not addressed...  Maybe it was setting up for something coming up but it seemed a little sloppy.

Spoilers below for the stuff that made me downgrade my rating:

The insta-love, while kinda cute, felt so out of place when there has been no real romance beyond the pathetic pining that Locked Lamora does which still has not been explained.
The fridging!  So okay, they're in love, they declared it so, they made plans for after, they have loads of noisy and destructive sex in a hammock, and everyone is a self-sacrificing idiot in this series if they care for someone at all so, yeah, I couldn't believe that the love interest was killed off, but I guess someone they were close to had to die, to keep with the high stakes nature from the first book, needing a death sacrifice, yadda yadda...  So annoying.

I wasn't sure if I'd like the nautical theme but I found the characters engaging and well developed and the plot great.

Man, I really wanted to love this trilogy but there was something missing from the story for me. Idk what it was but the story didn’t grab me and it was difficult for me to be interested in reading it

Another amazing installment of the gentlemen bastards! I absolutely adore Locke and Jean and I'm so glad that I jumped in to their world. Well worth the read, well worth the agony!!
