Not Julia Quinn, but the best alternative I've found. You know it's an amazing author when she can make the heroine's weird habit (illustrating bugs) endearing. This is historical romance trope "perfect man shows up at my front door" without any effort from the heroine. Love it! I just wish there was more tension/fighting instead of avoidance.
Currently in finals season, and I am genuinely stopping myself from downloading more of her books until it's over.

This was my first true ‘bodice ripper’ and it was quite the enjoyable read I must say, and I don’t just mean the bodice ripping parts.
Definitely my favorite of the series by far! Maybe it was because I could see myself in the awkward, shy Maddie who invented a Scottish army captain as a pretend suitor when she was 16 in order to avoid her debut presentation to the ton, only to be surprised many years later when that "imaginary" Scottish captain shows up at her doorstep ready to make her his bride. Maybe it is because of Logan, an outwardly confident and strong man who is really harboring emotional wounds from a difficult childhood that make him terrified of acknowledging any sorts of feelings for another person. Maybe it was because of a wonderful aunt and a ragtag group of soldiers who have a bond as strong as family that form the supporting cast of this story. Maybe it was because of a super funny scene involving a lobster on the run and a team of Scottish soldiers setting up battle plans to locate her. Maybe it was just the overall sweetness of two people who don't really feel like they are cut out for romance who end up finding out what love truly is. Or maybe it is just the idea that two people who need to be rescued from themselves can find their own inner strength as they give of themselves to help another. I don't know. All I know is that I really enjoyed this sweet romantic story and have decided that I am going to start calling my sweet husband "mo chridhe." A heartwarming story. Adorable. Four stars!
Very sweet read. I adored the heroine - she's socially awkward, has a fear of crowds and finds various ways to embarrass herself. Her hero is a Scottish captain who's verra verra verra hot. *g*
This is everything I've come to expect from a Tessa Dare story. Light hearted, sweet, funny, dialogue that pops between all the characters - a very fun and sexy read.

I loved this book. I know objectively it may not be the best book ever written, but I couldn't put it down. It was just a cute, sweet romance story.
