This book was the perfect thing to pull me out of a reading rut. The romance is a little farfetched and the MC is a bit formulaic but I enjoyed every moment of it. A perfect swoony Scotsman and a uncommonly pretty English wallflower, banter, begrudging tenderness, and verra verra verra good bedsport. What's not to love?

I really liked all the detail - Maddie's illustrations, the lobster couple, Logan and his devotion to his crew. I thought some of the resolution was a bit awkward as was some of the historical detail. And I got a little tired of the 'will they or won't they?' storyline - it just felt like it went on too long and without any reason behind it. But generally speaking, it was an enjoyable read.

Actual historical romcom perfection! A nerdy spinster heroine who writes letters to a fake Scottish soldier to get her family off her back, and then a soldier with the same name turns up....I don't think you could serve me a more perfect plot if you tried!

Maddie was just so perfect as the awkward science nerd heroine, and I adored Logan as the brooding but secretly soft damaged hero. She's inexperienced and virginal but not annoyingly so, and he's domineering and aggressively flirty while still being mindful of boundaries. They had such awkward but undeniable chemistry, and I loved watching them try to fit together and make their relationship work.

I love these two so much ;__;

This was everything that a historical romance should be! SO GOOD.
