Review: Reckless Hearts by Jagger Cole

Deismos. Whew. This is the dark and mysterious brother that we’ve been waiting for. His and Dahlia’s story was fun, with the secrets, games, and traumatic pasts. If you like a ‘run and don’t let me catch you’ type story, Deismos is your guy. Without going into details (no spoilers ya know), the history between these two start at the Knightsblood school, and the walls they’ve built between each other are very high and thick. So watching these tumble was one of those ‘finally’ moments. The suspense is present on many topics: who’s trying to get Dahlia, what Deimos is up to, and also some with the histories of each main character. This is a slow burn, so it did lull for me for a little bit. But how it was wrapped up and the ‘finally’ moment was oh so good. This does have darker themes, so check your TW and CW.

Deimos is everything you expect from Jagger, cruel, hard, and oh so sexy.
Dahlia is beautiful and I love how she grows through out this book.
Another great book.

What an ending to this great series! Jagger Cole is becoming a new auto-buy author for me! I'm so happy I got the chance to read the ARC for this book!

After the small part in Stolen Hearts between Dahlia and Deimos I was immediately so intrigued. There was so much intensity in that one sentence: What. Are. You. Doing. Here?

Deimos' inner thoughts are so good! He knows he is neurodivergence. Just a fancy word for "non-socially conforming psychopathic tendencies with a ludicrously high IQ, childhood demons up the ass, and a God complex" as he puts it.

Deimos and Dahlia have a history and we learn that along the way. I thought inner dialogues were the best. They know that they both have such dark thoughts and that they should hate each other and run away, but that's just impossible. They are both obsessed with each other.

After many plot twists and people wanting to hurt them, they are finally honest with each other! Their connection is so overwhelming. I was so happy. This was just the perfect ending!

ARC Book Review: Reckless Hearts by Jagger Cole
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I must begin by saying that "Reckless Hearts" is an extraordinary story that both infuriated and enchanted me. Deimos Drakos, the male lead, is a character I had a complex relationship with - one moment I couldn't stand him, and the next, I was utterly captivated.

This was my first dive into Jagger Cole's literary world, and it proved to be a deep plunge into a mafia-themed narrative with a haunted and possessive hero. But rest assured, it also comes with a heartwarming happily-ever-after.

Dahlia, a character we've encountered before, shares a unique connection with Deimos, and the story beautifully unravels their intertwined past through flashbacks. Presently, they find themselves in a forced proximity situation, with Dahlia at Deimos's mercy. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that beneath their seemingly opposite exteriors, Deimos and Dahlia share common ground.

While my initial impressions were lukewarm, I quickly found myself falling in love with the story as it unfolded. The central characters, Dahlia and Deimos, are nothing short of fabulous. Admittedly, there were moments where the plot ventured into predictability, but this didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story. I did discern the identity of the story's villain, but what slightly vexed me was that Dahlia, a character portrayed as intelligent, fails to recognize that Deimos knows all her hidden desires, which she had confided to him years earlier without knowing who he was.

Despite these minor quibbles, I wholeheartedly adored this book and am eager to explore the previous books in the collection. I extend my gratitude to Valentine PR for the opportunity to read this ARC and for introducing me to the talented author Jagger Cole, who is well on his way to becoming one of my favourite writers.

This stunning cover is a perfect introduction to the contents within "Reckless Hearts" by Jagger Cole - a gripping and emotionally raw tale of two damaged individuals who find solace in each other's darkness.

"I came for revenge.
        I got her instead.
And I wouldn't change that for the world." - Deimos Drakos

Deimos Drakos is a gorgeous, intimidating, and highly strategic man, especially concerning Dahlia Roy. When he sets his sights on her, she becomes his new obsession.

Six years ago, on Halloween night, Dahlia found Deimos with blood on his hands and bodies at his feet. She flees from him in terror, but fate brings them together again when Dahlia befriends Callie, Deimos's sister, without knowing their connection. When Dahlia and Deimos reunite at Callie's 21st birthday celebration, their past wounds reopen, revealing an insatiable desire that only they can satisfy in each other.

The author does an excellent job of portraying the intensity and rawness of Dahlia and Deimos' connection while also delivering glimpses of tender moments that left me breathless. The book is well-written, and I really enjoyed reading the many suspenseful twists and turns they had to endure to reach their happy ending.

However, I was a bit disappointed with the revelation that while being apart for six years, Deimos had been secretly sabotaging any potential relationships Dahlia might have had while he was enjoying the company of other women. This surprised me as Jagger Cole's male protagonists are usually portrayed as possessive and fiercely loyal. Nonetheless, I still found "Reckless Hearts" a great read overall.

👥 Dual POV
📚 "Reckless Hearts" can be read as a standalone novel, but I recommend reading Stolen Hearts first, where we get our initial glimpse of Dahlia and Deimos.

⚠️ Content and Safety Spoilers:  profanity, violence/death/injury, discussions of mental health/illness, explicit sex (dubcon, chase play), graphic depictions of childhood trauma including kidnapping and SA, grief, sexual harassment.

Once Dahlia and Deimos cross paths again at Callie's birthday party they only desire each other. No cheating. No sharing. Slight ow/om drama. Virgin h.

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
