Awakening Entertainment brings you a new reality show. In the Metaverse, you can have a child. The child will quickly grow in nine month from birth to 18 years old. In that time, contestants will be challenged with raising a child on television. Told from multiple POV, characters learn that your past will catch up with you.

This book was an interesting story wasted on lackluster writing, preventing me from getting into it at all.

There was no emotion in the writing, and the characters were very dull and there were so many of them that they were hard to tell apart since they didn’t have very fleshed-out personalities.

The way information was held back and then revealed also felt really artificial and forced to me. In one chapter the author would just decide to end on a cliffhanger and then in a later chapter he would just pick up that thought and reveal the information that had been withheld previously. It’s kind of hard to describe, but it felt like the author was in control of when stuff was revealed, rather than the characters figuring it out for themselves. It just didn’t feel like a natural progression of twists and turns. I did also find the “twists” to be fairly predictable, except for a couple of small things, and there were a couple of plot holes, too.

I did enjoy the concept of the show and the world, I just wish it had been better-executed.

Thought provoking and fascinating. A little darker than my usual fare, but well written and will stay in my head far later than finishing the story.

scifi thrillers may be my favorite type of mystery/thriller. just like a black mirror episode, i was enthralled with how this near future society operates. i enjoyed many of the POVs - mostly how we didn’t spend too much time with any of them so they didn’t feel grating.

overall a great read, and i’m gonna check out the other books in this world he’s made.

(this was a 5 until the end where he started explaining waaaaay too much)

I definitely wasn’t planning on binge reading this in 7 hours but it happened anyway. Guess that the definition of a book you can’t put down. Loved it!
