woohooo feminist revolution is fantasy rocks. the writing is soo good, i enjoyed the realistic MC and the side characters were interesting too. the love interest especially, such a green flag. i repdiceted some things but still dang it's so different from most YA fantasy these days.

This is such a good book. I loved every part of it! The protagonist is very interesting, and I really liked the world-building. And the twists and turns kept me guessing at what was going to happen next. The ending wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but it was still good. The plot had good pacing, I was very engaged throughout the entire book. I read it all in one sitting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy!
Amazing world building and lore, but the characters were not as fleshed out as they could be and the plot was very convoluted (there was just too much going on to quickly).

original review: 5/5⭐️
reread: 4.5/5⭐️
a couple flaws:
-the ending was a bit rushed
-the ‘romance’ was pretty nonexistent and felt unnecessary and forced
things I noticed after rereading:
this is definitely not some lighthearted, silly fantasy book. it was pretty dark and brutal. the violence was a bit much, but i was able to skim through anything that was too much for me. I really loved the friendships in this book, they were really moving and a tad bit heart breaking.
my favorite things about this book
-the world/the aesthetic
-the themes on friendship
-the plot/story
so yeah, 4.5/5⭐️
edit (may 2022) :
do you ever read a book, review it and you’re done? and then after a while you start thinking about it again and stuff? that’s me with this book. after rereading this, something was nagging at me and idk why but i just felt like i missed something when i reviewed it the second time. so i went back and read some other peoples reviews and decided to…✨review this book for the third time✨
i think the main thing other than what i said my second review, is the writing and the characters. there were a few scenes that i felt could’ve hit a lot harder and been way better if the writing was better. i also think that the characters could have used a bit more uMpH and a lil more pAzAzZ cause tbh they were pretty bland. (which i think is cause of the writing, they had a lot of potential though)
yk the first time i read this, i was blind to all flaws because it was one of the first ya books i’d read.
but for my third time rating, im lowering it to 3.5/5 ⭐️

A very interesting concept - I enjoyed how Namina crafted the story for her main character but felt like the world building was rushed at the end. Why would the Alaki suddenly believe Deca when she says the death streaks were their blood sisters out of the blue? Why would she suddenly believe in the Guilded ones being goddesses vs demons? I also wanted there to be more of a discussion on why the J'atu imprisoned the Guilded Ones in the first place and how freeing them would let the world now have equal rights for men and women (definitely did not sound that way in my opinion).
Would be interested in other similar concepts but for me with more backstory explanation and a deeper consideration for the consequences of their future actions.
