Started a little slow but the pace picked up nicely around the 20% mark. Good blend of romance and 8ntrigue, and the fantasy elements weren't hard to follow. Some of the plot points were a little too easy to predict, although some of the twists came as a surprise. Nice bits of humor throughout.  Overall, not bad!

Cute little book with a fun storyline, nothing too crazy. A lot of horse related puns. There were a couple spicy scenes that kindof felt out of place and didn’t really add anything to the story line could easily be skipped. I understand the author wanted to give the main character a “disability” but I thought it could have been portrayed better. Overall I really enjoyed the story though.

I think I managed to partially spoil this for myself by reading the authors note first (oops) but I really enjoyed reading Behooved. I was an avid horse girl growing up and every once in a while something like this book just grabs at that part of me. I’m glad I picked this up, though, as now I get to share it with my sister, an aspiring writer who has a disability as well.

The fate of a kingdom is at stake in this book, yet the overall tone of it is very silly/goofy, which just felt a bit weird. Additionally, the romance, which is arguably the most important part of this book, was sadly underdeveloped and, as I often struggle with, the love interest didn't have much of a personality, which meant I just didn't really care about the central relationship.

"The fate of the kingdom is riding on them" 🐎👑

Arranged marriage? ✅
A cursed prince who turns into a horse by day? ✅
A refreshing non brawny MMC that get saved by the FMC ✅
Great bisexual representation ✅

As someone who loved the My Lady Jane series, I was immediately excited to read this one.

The writing style was cosy and the characters were endearing, each with their own unique quirks that made them feel real and relatable.

Bianca's strength and vulnerability were particularly compelling, and I enjoyed how the story explored Bianca's relationship with her illness and how she coped with it, as well as how her and Aric navigated their complicated marriage.

Unfortunately I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing by the end. The story had so much potential, but the tension didn’t quite hit the mark for me, and I found myself wishing for a little more stakes and less repetitive travelling moments.

I give this a ⭐⭐⭐.25 stars as it was enjoyable and would recommend picking this one up if you're even vaguely interested because it was a very fun cosy read.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc of this one 🫶🏻

Behooved is a solid adventure story, but the courtly maneuvering leading into that adventure is lackluster. Much of the overarching story, rooted in that courtly maneuvering, is predictable as a result. I was skeptical of the romance but it won me over as we got to know the Pony Prince better.

Bianca's "affliction" troubles her throughout the story but is never defined beyond vague tummy troubles. It's probably good chronic illness representation.

I appreciate the author's light sprinkling of horse related terms in the prose without declaring an all-out horse pun war.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
