Unflinching and raw. So real it feels uncomfortable and invasive at times to read. Such a beautifully and lovingly crafted story that hits deep. One of the best sister relationships I've seen portrayed in any media.

This book was boring and never got good. Both sisters were equally jarring and I had no sympathy for either.

“I’m crying. And watching myself cry only amplifies my sadness. I’m filled with devastating pity for every single mirror version of me, all those times before, the youngest ones making me saddest of all. Watching myself have compassion for me in the absence of anyone else makes me cry harder”

This book made me mentally unwell

4.5 rounded down. This book hurt me. There were so many moments where I saw myself and not in a good way. Jayne was a bit of a frustrating narrator at times, and I wished she had more character development throughout the whole book instead of rushing the bulk of it in the last 50 or so pages. But this was another amazing book from Mary H.K. Choi and at this point I will buy every future book she puts out

Starting off, I really liked this book. I really related to and loved the character of Jayne and enjoyed the stories surrounding her. I don’t usually read these type of more contemporary fiction books but I really enjoyed it.
I read one review’s trigger warnings and for me, those are all book green flags
. Going in, I was expecting a dual perspective (based on the book’s description). I think it’s important to know that this is a character study on Jayne, not June or the rest, and Jayne is the central and focal character. I wish June and the other side character’s received more “screetime” and development somewhat. Also, as a Gilmore Girls fan, I loved every reference to the show. The book’s not winning a nobel prize anytime soon but I enjoyed it.

I’m not gonna lie it did hurt a bit, but it was worth it! Read trigger warnings before reading take care of yourself.
