I wish I read this immediately after the ask and the answer
Wow, in less than 40 pages Ness managed to capture both the brilliance of falling in love and the heartbreak of losing everything. I think I may have liked this more than the actual books themselves. A forbidden love story of a human and a Spackle - both turned away by their people for their feelings. And wow, that ending. Not at all what I expected!

This is the second supplementary Chaos Walking short story, which is probably best read after The Ask and the Answer. However, this one isn't directly related to the events of the main trilogy and thus could really be read at any time. This is a story of star-crossed love in a time of war, and while it didn't fit into the main trilogy, I appreciated that Patrick Ness wrote this story somewhere in Chaos Walking lore. I would love to read a new series that takes place in this world someday and ties these characters in.
