Really enjoyed this book, I read it in one sitting. I enjoyed the way the story was told with snippets from interviews, the project Pip did, as well as third person narrative. It allowed me to get gripped by the story, especially the parts written for her project. The epilogue was underwhelming, I felt the story didn't need it and it came across condescending and cliche.

So clearly a British author writing about an American town/high school. Very awkward dialogue, both intentional and unintentional. So much of it is so unbelievable. The language the characters use (“cheeky” and “fancy” when they’re supposed to be American), the poor attempt at grasping what high schoolers are actually like (what “cool” crowd would call parties “calamity parties” and then apparently forget only 5 years later). Just bizarre to read about high schoolers from the perspective of someone who clearly hasn’t stepped foot outside in several years.

This book was so good! I can see why so many people are obsessed with these series and this is only the first book. I did not see the end coming at all! It's a bittersweet commentary about the human condition. I loved every minute of it!

I don’t know why but I didn’t connect with this book as much as I thought?

I don’t know if it’s because I was so late to the party and I read other Holly Jackson books before this one? I felt this book read young, some bits didn’t feel realistic, I will continue with the series to see if Holly’s writing changes in the other books.

I liked the idea of it, I just think for me as someone who has realised they don’t like YA as much anymore, maybe it felt that way?

I think the story is very well thought out and it had a few plots twists I didn't necessarily see coming. It might not be the most realistic story - a teenager doing all this for a school project, interrogating adults at night on her own, breaking and entering people's houses, etc. - but i didn't really care because it's kind of to be expected with a book like this. You kind of have to ignore all the logistics of it and have fun.

It was very easy for me to read this book, because the writing was pretty simple and the story was fast paced with short chapters.

The characters were pretty likeable, however they were all very quirky and I felt like most of them had the same personality which sometimes annoyed me a bit.

But yes, overall I really enjoyed reading this and I will definitely read the other books as well!
