The idea of the book was better than the actual book. Still, had some great lines.

Almost certainly best read aloud

I loved this book so, so much.  It's clever, fun, funny and a fast read.  The writing is quick and packs a punch and the the illustrations are wonderful.

A perfect all ages adaptation of the 1st third of the classic poem. The art is creepy and hilarious. The adults are horrible. The kids are awesome. It's exactly what a kid's version of Beowulf should be.

This was so much fun. The illustrations are detailed and the actual verbiage made me giggle. My favorite form of escapism lately is nostalgic middle grade books, but this one proved to be a contemporary romp. If you are reading with a child, or if the child is embarking on a solo read, definitely continue onto the larger prose at the end. It utilizes accessible/silly language to explain the origins of the poem with a brief foray into the etymology of Old English and a formulaic break down regarding poetic devices.

My 6 year old shrieked "this is fantastic, when is the next one?" upon finishing. It is fast even as a bedtime story; took us 4 nights.
