Wow. Just wow. Might be my new favorite in the series. I know I sound like a broken record on this point, but Karin Slaughter is just a master storyteller. And how she took a story from earlier books and wove it into something new was just SO well done. I'm out of superlatives for it.
And I liked having a Sara heavy story. Made me realize why I love her character so much too.

The 11th book in the Will Trent series and as always Karin Slaughter doesn't disappoint. I absolutely adore the relationship between Will and Sara. The set up of the plot and the twist at the end were well executed - I truly did not see that twist coming! Here's to hoping her next book is another in the Will Trent series and we finally get Mr and Mrs. Trent!
And just like that I’m all caught up with the greatness that is Will Trent. This was definitely my in my top 2, maybe tied with Criminal! I totally did not see that reveal coming!
This story focuses on Sarah and the trauma she went through 15 years ago. The way her resident cohorts treated her and just how utterly terrible they are really made the story more intriguing. Each of the characters having different roles that perfectly coincided with their personalities was perfectly portrayed. I loved the fact that Faith’s ptsd from the pervious case continued into this one.
There were multiple times where I was like oh it’s definitely this or it has to be this. Nope I was completely wrong! The way this index had me doing a little happy dance because Will and Sarah deserve to be happy, but I know it won’t stay that way! I’m hoping this series continues because I’m not over their stories!

Strong character development:
Yes
Brutal but engaging crime / thriller - I wouldn’t want to live in the author’s head
The latest chapter of the Will Trent series takes us back to the tragic past of Dr. Sarah Linton, whose demons finally reach her present life and threaten to shatter her to pieces…
I absolutely adore Karin Slaughter and her Will Trent series is definitely my favorite! The latest installment (as of June 2023) interweaves past and present to a packing page turner that I just couldn‘t put down. Five stars all the way!
