if you’re sensitive, trigger warnings include: graphic depictions of rape, spousal abuse, stalking, cyber threats, kidnapping, drug abuse, and suicide. however, it was a well crafted, twisty whodunnit. also, an unflinching look at the many sides of being a survivor of sexual assault. i especially appreciated the frank discussion between two female survivors about their hurt, humiliation, and healing journeys.

Via audiobook. Look, I know this series is a crime thriller type but please can we get more of the personal stuff? I want to hear more about the wedding and Amanda getting to dance with will

I do look forward to each new book in this series. I truly enjoy the characters.

I have always loved any books by Karin Slaughter but my favorite series is the Will Trent series. This one was a little harder for me to follow at first as I wasn’t sure where things were in timelines but settled in after a bit.
Once again, the nature of the crimes Will, Sara, & Faith are investigating are unsettling and horrifying. I liked the storyline arcs for Amanda & Jeremy within this one. And I was super excited to read about characters from other books by Karin. Felt like a crossover event at one point. Overall, this is another favorite!!

So happy to have Sara Linton and Will Trent back in my life!
A fantastic return, adding colour to some of Sara's history.

"After That Night," a compelling installment in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series, delivers a gripping narrative that explores the haunting echoes of the past. Slaughter weaves a masterful tale of suspense and intrigue, showcasing her prowess in crafting intense psychological thrillers.

The story centers around Sara Linton, whose life took a traumatic turn fifteen years ago. Slaughter skillfully delves into Sara's journey of rebuilding, presenting her as a successful doctor engaged to a loving partner. However, the past resurfaces unexpectedly when Sara, now working in the ER, encounters a brutally attacked young woman named Dani Cooper. As GBI Special Agent Will Trent leads the investigation, the connections between Dani's assault and Sara's past become chillingly apparent.

Slaughter's narrative prowess shines as she navigates the intricacies of the investigation, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with each revelation. The author skillfully explores the psychological toll of trauma, making Sara's character resonate with depth and authenticity. The suspense is palpable, and Slaughter masterfully builds tension, ensuring that the past, seemingly buried, resurfaces with relentless force.

The dynamic between Sara Linton and Will Trent adds an extra layer of complexity to the narrative. Slaughter expertly captures their collaborative yet complex relationship, enhancing the emotional depth of the story. The plot unfolds with precision, seamlessly blending the present investigation with the lingering shadows of the past.

Slaughter's evocative prose and keen understanding of human psychology elevate "After That Night" beyond a conventional thriller. The novel stands as a testament to her ability to craft narratives that are as emotionally resonant as they are suspenseful. For fans of the Will Trent series, this installment is a stellar addition, showcasing Karin Slaughter at the height of her storytelling prowess.

I've seen a few one- and two-star reviews by people complaining that they don't understand the characters or what's going on, who then say they haven't read ANY of the previous Will Trent/Sara Linton books. Who starts a series at BOOK ELEVEN and is then pissed they don't know the back story? That is some bananas nonsense.

ANYWAY. This book was great. Disturbing, graphic, upsetting, and all of the other things I love about Slaughter and the world she's created. After I finished reading this, I decided to go back and listen to the audiobook versions of the older books I've already read because I love this series so much. Highly recommend!

This was brutal to read but a phenomenal story. Sara and Will are still everything. The puzzle pieces in this one were so scattered and difficult to find. The bits dropped throughout were so easy to miss until everything finally clicked into place.
Also... Cannot wait to see Jeremy join the force in some way!
