I had to finish this book because my boss recommended it to me, honestly it was really easy to read but too messy of writing / gory for shock value/ plot hole-y for me( not my type of thriller) . Also I hate a “hot cop”. Ewwwww

I think this story provided a much-needed background into Sara's life. I originally rated it a 3.25 but upon a reread I bumped it to 3.75.
I hope KS sleeps well at night and that she gets everything she wants in life bc the way she writes books, she deserves everything and more in life. The way she closes loops, writes the most perfect man of my dreams, and somehow put all of that in the most triggering, damaging, dark stories is incredible. Keep up the good work KS and NEVER do anything to Wilbur
Happy Publication Day!
This is book #11 of the almighty Will Trent series that has recently taken on the world with vigor being seen on the small screen to millions!
First off I would not recommend reading this book as a standalone. I also would not recommend you begin Will Trent book #3 [b:Undone|5764902|Undone (Will Trent, #3)|Karin Slaughter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388843741l/5764902._SY75_.jpg|5936637] in the series until AFTER you have completed The Grant County series[b:Karin Slaughter Books in Order: Will Trent series, Grant County series, all short stories, standalone novels, and nonfiction, plus a Karin Slaughter biography.|37777294|Karin Slaughter Books in Order Will Trent series, Grant County series, all short stories, standalone novels, and nonfiction, plus a Karin Slaughter biography. This book focuses on Sara (MC in The Grant County & Will Trent series), returning to her college days when she became a victim of sexual assault and her life changed forever!
This book, like most of Karin Slaughter’s books deal with awful crimes that happen to women! They are painfully honest, but that is why Karin Slaughter is my favorite author. She isn’t afraid to go into detail about what happens before, during and after these crimes occur. The characters are everyday people, because assault can happen to anyone, no matter your color, class or age.
Will & Sara also have changed in this book, as you can now feel that no matter how rough it gets, they will remain together!
Love love love!

Will Trent novels are all certified bangers and I cannot be convinced otherwise.
Though I am hoping the next case is less intricately tied to the main characters and their pasts - having to retcon the timeline is starting to get messy, IMO.

3.5 stars. Took me ages to finish this lol. I found so many parts really contradicting and confusing but that may have just been me. I'd say 85% of the book could have been sped up and the suspense all happened in the last 15%. I thought the who done it was satisfying though, so thanks Karin x

Good, fast read. I love this team! Being a fan of the series prior to the tv editions, it has taken a bit to re-work my own mental interpretations of each character to match that of the screen. Not only that, but Sara's background appears to be also undergoing a re-write. However, those are small concerns and don't detract from what is a well written and well researched story. Being a survivor of a violent sexual assault I was glad to see the parts of the story that focused on the victims was not downplayed or brushed aside or merely hinted at or romantised. The section where Sara discusses her past with Faith was especially challenging for myself, but also felt like all the things I have tried to put into words to counselors and to the few people I have tried to talk to about my own experience. Some how in trying to do so, you hurt yourself, and become a victim again. I prefer "survivor" but that doesn't begin to illustrate what you still go through every day, in my case, for decades.
