Spoiler Alert made me appreciate fanfiction a bit more; it’s not a genre I’m familiar with, but I see now that fanfiction could comfort readers and writers - and all the effort it takes to create alternative story lines

I liked it. Good premise. Fun to read. The characters really felt fleshed out. I think it is a solid romance novel. Definitely recommendation-worthy. I found the first part quite joyful, there is friendship and new romance and hidden identities...it was quick and fast-paced and exciting. The second half of the book was good too, but it just didn't have the some of that same excitement that the first half had. That being said, I did read it in one day, so I obviously couldn't stop reading it.

As much as I like the idea of having a fat and confident and body-loving fmc, this book actually made me feel worse about my body. It was so full with past trauma and current trauma that it couldn't have her just living a lovely fat life. I get that this is the point of this book, and I think this book did a great job for what it is trying to do. I think this book just made me realize and get excited for the future when there are a lot more books where there is a lead that just happens to be fat, and it is basically a non-issue. Kind of like how gay romances used to focus a lot more of the trauma, and now we can get lots and lots of queer romances where homophobia isn't brought up at all...just a pure love story.

I liked the chemistry between the characters, but I wasn't feral for it. I don't know exactly why or what the author could have done differently. Perhaps it was that every now and then I was being TOLD too much that they loved each other and I wasn't getting enough of those little gestures (the ones that the author barely even acknowledges) that show the readers how in love the characters are. There was a bit of this in the private DMs we get from the past two years, but I was hoping for more of it in the present.

I went into this expected a lighthearted, low-stakes rom-com. I’m grateful and blown away by how much more this book meant to me.

The characters were real, raw, sometimes unlikeable, but so so so human. The overall plot premise was just silly enough to be both believable and indulgent for a reader like me who was raised by fandom and fanfiction.

The actual plot was well crafted and somehow, impressively, didn’t feel forced. I particularly enjoyed how everything played out in the end, how at the end of the day it all comes down to doing our best to understand and respect how others experience this world we all share.
