I felt like some of the conflict, especially with the parents, was flimsy and just made the FMC come across as dramatic to me. They also came across as in their 20s to me, I kept forgetting they were late 30s. Also, the fanfic excerpts didn't work very well in audiobook format.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I especially appreciated the fact that April is whole, strong, and fully-realized at the beginning of the book. Does she have issues? Sure, but she has already decided what she will and won't tolerate in a relationship. Marcus is just as complex with scars of his own, even if his are the kind that don't show on the outside. Both of these characters are so relatable, and the attraction between them is white-hot! I'm looking forward to more from Olivia Dade.

i was just bored mostly. also i don’t really understand why it ended with red riding hood roleplay

A slog without 3X speed and Libby. Not a fanfic fan or ao3 fan, but also not ignorant, just not interested. The story was fuller with the fanfic/ao3 inserts and they were amusing, especially the
shark
one.

Overall the angst was ok. At First Spite was more delightful, but this was decent for the advocacy efforts throughout.

Didn't enjoy the references to the hero's conventional attractiveness, but it made sense as far as 'balance' in the story from a perspective of literary yin-yang-ishness. Attactve wealthy heroes are a dime a dozen in contemporary literature and a total generic snooze besides. The MMC is also internally/externally balanced due to his reading challenges, but the overwhelming symmetry in the appearances and mental acuity aspect of the characters is so sharp it's almost off-putting.

Gonna keep reading OD and looking forward to the day these stories and FMC-archetypes are on the big screens and the streaming services.

This was an enjoyable read despite the above-mentioned opines, and also because it inspired the opines.

Felt kinda like a Covid book, steeped as it is in AO3 culture and communities. A fanfic writer and cosplayer of a popular show that seems an awful lot like GoT with the serial numbers filed off falls into a romance with an actor on the show. The wrinkle being said actor is ALSO her writing partner and longtime online friend, but he doesn't clue her in on this identity because his career would be over if the shitty showrunners found out he was writing fix-it fics.

Both characters have horrific families who messed them up in identity-defining ways. April's mom fat shamed the shit out of her -- still does -- and his parents, despite being teachers, never figured out he was massively dyslexic, and treated him instead like he was stupid. So they both have very plausible complexes which mess with their relationship.

This book was exactly what I needed. Fun, easy, romantic, sexy, and focused on a beautiful fat woman.
