Uh so… if you look at my reading updates the first 40% of this book I absolutely loved.
And then it went downhill so fast I could barely finish it! It honestly made me avoid reading and I just played a bunch of Sims 4 instead.
There’s so many issues I have with this book, but what made it go downhill for me was the hero lying about his identity to the heroine (and how predictable the ensuing story went after that). I was fine with him not disclosing his real identity before they were having sex and dating, but as soon as they got into a serious relationship and he still wasn’t telling her who he was I just felt icky. The book also felt way too long, and I think that’s because the main charters got together very easily and too quickly so there wasn’t much tension after that. The sex scenes were also written … interestingly. I usually love some good smut in my romance books, but I think there was just too many in this book.
I could say more things that irritate me about this book, but a lot of people who have given this 1-2 stars have said it better than I could on goodreads.

So, I googled fiction about cosplay. This happened. I was like, "I'm scared, but this can't be a serious book." It's not. Definitely not.
"'I think you just knocked over a water glass with your dick,' she said."
"'If I'd had someone like you in my life...maybe I wouldn't have gotten mixed up in that unicycling gang to begin with. Maybe I'd have had the courage to switch . . . to two wheels.'"
I almost lost my shit whenever a shark flew into the oval office and bit the president in half.
I honestly hope this gets made into a rom-com, not because I would watch it because I wouldn't, but so that people can see an actual fat heroine in a rom-com who's not there for plucky comic relief or something.
This book is tooooo loooonnnggg. The characters think too much. Waaaaaay too much. I will give you all the credit for subverting my expectations occasionally. I expected certain tropes to be fulfilled that were at least fulfilled in a different way, which is nice.
Overall, it has a reasonably coherent plot . . . once I stopped being subjected to weird, awkward dates, which are the worst.
There was this one point when they were on their way to her parents' house when the narrative lost focus, became scattered, and I wasn't sure what was going on for a bit. Flashbacks were making things difficult to figure out what was going on in the moment. It seems like maybe some passages were just shoved together.
I still can't quite get used to third person limited dual of point of view. I mean, lots of books do it I don't really think anyone does it all that well. JK Rowling would at least isolate the non-Harry pov parts to beginnings of books/chapters. In this book, the switching between characters thoughts was honestly confusing to me because it was constant. they were switching back and forth from her to his points of view so quickly that I couldn't even tell who was thinking what.
It was a genuine writing mechanics problem, I think. I think ya really has it right with alternating first-person perspective. It was hard to tell what exactly the reader is supposed to know, especially in a story with SO MUCH dramatic irony.
Ack I really don't get sex scenes. Who bites a person? Does anyone like to be bitten? Unless it's bitten in half by a shark of course.
So ..,..., take my advice and skip the epilogue. It's totally pointless and super weird.
Gahhhh help geology puns my only weakness why do I love you so much so gneissssss
The MC character is pretty likable. The male character... is crazy unrealistic.
So, blink and you'll miss it, but I THINK this blindingly hetero book acknowledged the mc being bisexual? I think, in a flashback, she went on a date with a woman. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, because I feel like she'd at least mention or acknowledge either the existence of queerness or at least femslash at some point.
Because queerness wasn't mentioned at any other time...in a book about fanfiction. No seriously. It was weird. I mean, you ever been on Tumblr, bruh? fanfiction.net when I was growing up was definitely a minefield for slash fics. Just saying.
Thoughts while reading
I wish the voice were slightly less literary. If something is a trophy rom-com parody meta fictional thing then I expect it to be pretty casual. Sometimes the main characters were so very literary that it was hard to like them very much. For a book with characters harmed by intellectualism, the book certainly didn't lean out of praising their intellects either.
Tbh all that weird stuff with the guy who plays Cupid writing fanfic was kind of absurdly funny. I have never heard so much discussion of pegging in my life, perhaps because I haven't known that term for that long, but there it is.
After one second of there being science, I was like, "I made a good decision unintentionally!!!!" Then it was back to business as usual.
But God. I just don't even know what to do about the like knowing irony of like fetishizing a fit male body when the plot line is about something entirely different it would seem.... it's so annoying. So this book is aware of its premise but also misses the point sometimes.

A fun, lusty rom-com of a book. Fans of Game of Thrones will find some amusement and commiseration here.
Graphic: Sexual content
Oh, this book was so cute! I loved the main characters and I think Dade did a great job showcasing their individual struggles and how our baggage can make us bad at relationships. I thought the "reveal" was a bit angsty, but I loved that the heroine realized she wasn't being fair. I dunno. Overall, it was great, and I will definitely be reading the next one.
BTW- if you like lots of graphic sex scenes, this is the book for you, but it's not erotica or anything so there's no backdoor stuff.

THIS BOOK WAS GOLDEN! I’m still smiling like a maniac over the absolute gem that this story is! Fan fiction, hidden identities, body positivity, dyslexia positive, amazing friendship, and sweet as sin romance? This book packs it all folks! The best part? You get to read from both Olivia and Marcus’s POVs. I have to say though, Alex was by far one of my favorite characters. I loved the formatting of this book because you get to read snippets of fan fiction that both Olivia and Marcus wrote, but also snippets from the TV Marcus is on and snippets from movies he’s worked on, which adds to the charm of the story. I can not get over how wonderful it is read about more characters who are body positive and characters that have disorders such as dyslexia and how they deal with it. This book was fantastic and I am so so excited to read the next book about Alex and Lauren’s story! Ahhh this book just makes me so happy! PLEASE READ IT!
