Firstly, we love to see a STEM heroine. April is a geologist, she seems to work in consulting doing testing on contaminated sites for remediation. She also writes fanfic. I just love Olivia Dade's characters, especially her heroines, self-actualized fat women over the age of 30 who are pursuing their own interests in life. Just having a window into the confidence and depth of these characters is somehow... reassuring? I don't know. Why is it so revolutionary to want to exist in the world, unashamed? I don't know, but it is. And they aren't overconfident or brash, they get hurt and make mistakes and hurt other people. It just feels very healing to read.

Her relationship with Marcus is very sweet. I got impatient with some of the communication errors they were having about 65% of the way in, just bracing myself for the inevitable, but I'm glad I powered through. I also loved that these characters are 36 and 40 years old and they are STILL struggling with their parents. SO REAL. I'm very interested to see how the next book goes, Alex is like human fireworks!

DNF @ 54%. Page 223.

I have more chemistry with my advent calendar than the 2 main characters in this book

April (a fan and fanfiction-writer) and Marcus (actor) have secrets and get tangled up in them. And eachother.

I so wanted to like this book. A plus-size character comfortable with her own body (or is she?), romance, geology and fanfiction-writing... this book seems to have a lot of great ingredients. It let me down though.
The characters were all shallow judgmental liars (don't you hate those romantic comedies where all issues would be resolved immediately if people would just STOP LYING to eachother?) The interactions didn't seem believable to me, at all. The sex-scenes were hair-raisingly cringe.
This book could have been more.

This book was both healing and triggering to read as a woman in a larger body. I appreciate getting to read about a woman that looks like me being desired and loved. I think parts were cheesy, including their
reconnection
, but overall I loved it.

This story absolutely blew me away. I needed to read the story with April as the main character and Marcus as our hero. Both of their journeys in this romance was so beautiful to read about. As someone who isn't skinny, this story also gave me hope myself. The topics discussed in the story were much more serious than I expected but were really meaningful to read about. The romance was so cute and hotter than expected! Seriously if you love reading books about people who are also in fandoms and love to read and obsess in fandom things you'll love this book. If you liked Geekerella, you'll probably love this similar type story that is older and much more adult. Highly recommend!

It was an easy smooth feel good read which is what I was looking for. I love the body positivity but the characters feel a bit too flat to me. Marcus is secretly hot and smart??? Lolll and April is a smart fanfic writer... And that's about as much as we know about them. The writing got too cheesy like the last scene. Also not to kink shame but one should never say grandma while horny. Big no.

First two chapters are great for establishing the main characters. After that, it’s a lot of inner monologues and poor communication (and sex) with a cute scene at the end. I just finished another book about actors (Charlie Outlaw) and far preferred that one.
