Aaah, what a satisfying read! And a truly creepy take on a possible future outcome of our current trend of self destruction. To those who believe we are evolving to a higher state, sorry, you could't be more wrong (take a look around you at the wholsale slaughter of unborn babies and count the loss of all future generations of potential geniuses we're eliminating in the name of 'my body, my choice').
It was alos interesting to note that my guess about Annamaria's persona is fairly accurate.

These books really just keep getting weirder. Not in a bad way, just in ways I didn't think they could go. The direction the series has taken is vastly different than I imagined it would be from reading the first two books. Now the concept of time travel is being added, and now Odd gets to interdimensional interactions go his repertoire. Sometimes it gets hard to follow concept-wise, but the pacing was great and the suspense is classic Koontz.
Love Odd Thomas. He may be my favorite modern day character. He's still as witty & compassionate as always.
This installment of the delightfully "odd" series was incredibly unique. The world building was so out there that I want to bow in admiration for Koontz's imagination. That being said, it was so bizarre I became confused on the odd occasion, but don't blame the author, the trouble was all mine. As usual the story is filled with unique characters, brilliant dialogue and well it's got Odd, and I am besotted with him. I want to adopt him and take him away from it all. Can't wait to see whats in store for the charming boy and his band of misfits.

“We are all the walking wounded in a world that is a war zone. Everything we love will be taken from us, everything, last of all life itself. Yet everywhere I look, I find great beauty in this battlefield, and grace and the promise of joy.
“Between birth and burial, we find ourselves in a comedy of mysteries. If you don't think life is mysterious, if you believe you have it all mapped out, you aren't paying attention or you've anesthetized yourself with booze or drugs, or with a comforting ideology. And if you don't think life's a comedy - well, friend, you might as well hurry along to that burial. The rest of us need people with whom we can laugh.”

Another good one.
As Oddie's journey to find his destiny continues, the road to his lost love becomes darker and more bizarre. His travelling companion is no more transparent than she was when he found her. Yet he must go on, if Stormy is waiting for him.

What happened Odd????
I started out Odd Apocalypse so excited. I Love this series and couldn't wait to get my hands on something new. So you can imagine my surprise when I started reading and couldn't get into it. I forced myself because of my Love for Odd but I did struggle.
I had to separate it from from the original Odd Thomas, and now looking back it's kind of been that way since the first book. This story did however intrigue me enough to go out a buy Wells' The Island of Dr. Monreau, because at one point that was where I thought this book was heading.
All in all, I liked the book. But Odd's wittiness seemed forced and I really disliked the endless mentioning of instances that happened in the past books. Really anyone that is going to pick up Odd Apocalypse will have read the first 4 books, if not, the graphic novels as well. So there was no need for the references.

I was disappointed. I have been looking forward to reading the 5th book in the "Odd Thomas" series. This book had parts that were just too gross for me to enjoy. There was not enough humor and story to counteract the horrible parts of the book.
Not as good as parts 1 and 2 but better than the last one
Dean does it again with a fantastical, nonsensical story that nonetheless I couldn't put down. Thank goodness they don't take long to consume...the thing about his stories is that I rarely remember much of the story line afterwards. You race through them but then six weeks later can't quite remember what the story was about....phantoms...uh...there's a dog...and a serial-killer-something-otherworldly-beast...evil dude(s) going on killing spree of orphans or widows...or something...oh well! Next one please!
