It was interesting and captivating all the way through and I enjoyed reading it, especially liked the mystery of it. (Everything is a mystery in the beginning, even what genre the book is going to be). Reason for 3 stars is because I found the end unsatisfying and for me a satisfying end is one of the most important things for a good book. It wasn't awful, I just had high expectations.

I did not realise this was a YA book, the genre is not something I'd usually reach for however I still enjoyed the book and feel that if I was in that age bracket it may have been a 5 star book

Whatever happened to you down there, whatever the world looks like now, that's not how it always looks. That's not how it's always going to look. There's more. There's always more.

I really disliked this. There was an interesting hook, but it feels like the author had a message he wanted to convey and he was in search of a story to convey that message. It’s not a bad message, but it felt heavy handed and didn’t include enough world holding to keep me engaged. Every time I thought about quitting something kind of intriguing would happen, but then it wasn’t developed beyond a surface level. Part of that is intentional - you’re supposed to have questions about the nature of reality - but it wasn’t something I enjoyed. The teen angst stuff was also bot really written with a middle aged reader in mind either. That’s okay. Not everything needs to be for me. This very much wasn’t.

I read this book in two sittings. Read till the end of the first part and almost didn't pick it back up. I was kinda bored but curious. Picked it up the second time and finished it in one night (up till 2am). Loved everything after Part 1 and like that I'm still not 100% sure what has happened. Possibly going to read more by Patrick Ness.
