Second time reading a book by this author and second time reading a repetitive back and forth plot with flat characters just to find out the truth at the end. Good story underneath, but very dull. Not going to read any more of her books.

What a great read! Kathryn Croft really knows how to create suspense and throw in plot twists to keep her readers turning pages and reading past their bedtime. Zoe's son Ethan drowns in the lake with his bestfriend Josh....it's ruled accidental but then Zoe receives a warning that it was no accident. Thanks to #Netgalley for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review. #thewarning #kathryncroft #litsy #goodreads #nickikendall #tea_sipping_bookworm

This was my first venture into a Kathryn Croft novel and it most certainly won’t be the last!

Three years ago, two teenage boys are found dead. A terrible accident or at least that’s what we all thought until Zoe received the first email, this prompts Zoe to get in touch with the other boys mother. More messages come through and even more convinced that the accident may not have been an accident, Zoe wants answers but to get to those answers, she has to relive the horror of what happened.

This book consumed me. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about it and trying to suss out who the sender of the emails/text messages was. Suffice to say, I wouldn’t make a good detective.

There are plenty of twists and turns, that had me on the edge of my seat, questioning myself on my thoughts as to who I thought the sender was.

So, I can definitely recommend this book, especially to fans of psychological thrillers.

Kathryn Croft does it again with another riveting psychological thriller! She is a must-read author of mine! This one was probably my least favourite of hers, and that's saying something because it was still fantastic!

Zoe's son Ethan drowned with his best friend three years ago and Zoe had only just started getting her life back on track. All of a sudden she gets a mysterious email. "You need to find out the truth about what happened to your son". All of a sudden she is on a quest to discover what really happened to Ethan.

Really enjoyed this one. As usual, Croft dives straight into it and we are soon wondering what on earth is going on and who did it. There is a large range of characters to choose from and there are many twists and turns along the way.

Although I'm not sure if anyone could guess what really happened, I came awfully close. But there was still an extra surprise that I wasn't expecting. However, saying that I wasn't blown away by the dramatic climax of the novel.

Her writing, as usual - is brilliant. Gradually increasing the tension until you are bursting to find out the truth. The characters were well developed and I just love the way she only gives a little bit away at precisely the right time.

Would I recommend The Warning?
Absolutely! I would recommend ANYTHING by Kathryn Croft for thriller fans. Just pick any of them! You won't be disappointed!

Many thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for a copy of The Warning for me to read and review.

The Warning is Kathryn Croft's seventh psychological thriller, and, just like all of the rest, it's a real page-turner! It follows nurse Zoe who's has been devastated by the death of son Ethan in the local river along with his best friend Josh. Three years later she receives a terrifying message stating that the boys' drowning was not an accident. Thrown once again into turmoil, she resolves to find out the truth about her son's death even if it means grieving all over again.

This book has everything: a compelling storyline, a cast of intriguing characters and a relentless pace, add to that an addictive quality and you've got a right rollicking good read! There are twisty surprises aplenty and especially at the back end of the book, they became pretty jaw-dropping in nature. The tale is told in quite a unique way - each chapter is devoted to a particular character and tells of what happened from their perspective. Emotive, well written and a thoroughly fantastic book, you'd be mad not to opt for this one!

Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I love a good thriller as much as the next person, but there's such a thing as too many twists and this book definitely qualifies. It kept me engaged until the end and I definitely enjoyed it and liked how many different narrators there were so you could see from several different perspectives but towards the end I was honestly just tired of all the false twists.
Leanne did it! No, it was Roberta and Adrien! No it was Scott!
. I understand the want to surprise the reader but I didn't like the reveal that
Harley pushed Josh and caused his and Ethan's death
because it came out of nowhere and I think the story was leading up to
Scott
having done it and would have felt entirely more satisfying as a result.

The Warning is a book I dived into immediately, as soon as I read the tag-line and was approved by BookOuture, on Netgalley, I started reading. I like when books fall like that – where you request something and know you absolutely have to start it immediately and I finished this book in one evening, something that’s a bit of a rarity since I started a new job a week ago – starting a new job is draining, folks. I actually have never read one of Kathryn Croft’s books, but the synopsis just hooked me immediately and I actually really loved the book.

This is an absolutely cracking psychological thriller and what sets it apart from most psychological thrillers is that Zoe is actually a reliable narrator – hurrah! She isn’t going mad or acting different, this is just a mother trying to get over the death of her son three years ago and who, rightly, questions everything she thought she knew when she starts to get text messages insinuating Ethan’s death wasn’t quite as accidental as Zoe and everyone else was led to believe. It’s a really clever premise, and I liked that Jake, Zoe’s husband, was on Zoe’s side throughout when she started to delve back into what happened on the day Ethan and Josh died. He was not a great husband otherwise, but he was rock solid in being on Zoe’s side as she went down the rabbit hole of her son’s last days and hours. It was so refreshing.

There is a lot going on in this novel – it’s not just about Zoe’s search for the truth, but there’s Josh’s mum Roberta as well, who just seems very Stepford-wife-y and her husband most definitely rules their roost with an iron fist and it actually made me so sad for her, because she seemed like a decent person, more or less. Then there’s Zoe’s surviving son, Harley, off to medical school soon and very, very introverted. Then there is the obligatory narrator in italics who is almost like the puppet master – you can tell this person is manipulative but it isn’t clear at all who it actually is. I will say, the reveal wasn’t one of those moments where your jaw drops, unfortunately, I had an idea who I thought it might have been and was utterly wrong, so utterly wrong, but it was everything that came out after that reveal that was the shock, in my opinion.

The Warning was a truly magnificent read. I was glued to it from start to finish, barely able to put it down and desperate for Zoe to put to rest what happened to Ethan (and Josh) all those years ago. Kathryn Croft is a fantastic writer and I will definitely be going back and reading her previous novels because she is such a brilliant writer, she honestly kept me awake long enough to finish this book in one go and this week, that is a bloody rarity. Thank you, Kathryn, The Warning was the exact book I needed to kick my reading mojo back into gear.
