I didn't want it to end! I've found a new favorite author. I just purchased "Sunbolt" and can't wait to start it. I look forward to more from Mrs. Khanani!

I figured I'd start Intisar's books with this short story and the fact that it was free was even better. What a treat! I can't wait to get into the longer books after this.

Intisar is an amazing storyteller, Rae comes to life in this short story and I really cannot wait to see what's next for her as the end of the book reveals there will be a series based on her. I can't wait.

The Bone Knife was a very short novella that introduces you to Rae. She is one of those girls who has the weight of the world on her shoulders because of her trying to look out and protect her family. She is also a bit different since she was born with a deformed foot and isn't treated the best by people around her. Which is why I loved her from the very first second of meeting her. I just know that she is going to show people not to underestimate her. Ever.

Just like the previous novella in this series, I will definitely dive into book 2. I'm excited to see where this new character is going to take me. Super super excited!

I've read The Theft of Sunlight before reading this (and loved it so much!), so I'm much familiar with the characters in this short story, especially Rae.

Rae is fierce and protective towards her sisters, and it's obvious that her family's bond is very strong. They have so much love between them, although sometimes Rae seems to forget it, putting herself beneath her sisters instinctively.

In this story, Rae's father gave a shelter to Stonemane, a faerie, although it was forbidden to do so in the kingdom. Rae, as smart as she is, seems to dislike the faerie a great deal, mostly because of his beauty and grace, something so unattainable to her thanks to her clubfoot. The story ended with Rae helping Stonemane escape, and him giving her a gift: a bone knife.

Although this story showcases the fierce love and care that Rae has towards her family, I don't think I'll ever be able to forget Stonemane's words for her: "You should on occasion be kinder to yourself".

It's a beautiful advice, one that we all need

The Bone Knife is a short story that introduces the next protagonist in the series, and is about her encounter with a faerie. The story takes place over about a day. The characters are memorable, and the main character is introspective and complex. The magic is imaginative, with references to the first book in the series, drawing in the reader and creating intrigue for the next book.

I enjoyed the story, but found the ending somewhat anticlimactic. I was curious what
  the bone knife is for
and how the story ties into larger story arc of the trilogy, if at all.

Not much to say, it was very short. I did not get the whole Faerie thing. Yes in her other book she mentions them but no one sees them, and now he came from the king's city..was this another world?

Anyway, the story about Rae, who has a clubfoot, who meets a Faerie. Who protects her sister. And then the end.

I wish it had been longer

I finished Thorn the day before starting and finishing this. Hands down I'm loving this author more and more. I can't wait to see what she'll set out to show us next.
