Beautiful illustrations but I wasn't prepared for how sad this story would be

Oksi uses the Finnish creation story to tell the the intriguing story of our main character, Poorling. Poorling has incredible abilities that makes her different from her siblings, the bear cubs. As she navigates what she's bestowed with, she runs into more than what she bargained for.

This book is gorgeous and makes me very curious about the mythology it’s based on! It is a super quick read as there’s not a lot of text, but the illustrations are worth spending some extra time to look at!

The story was very fascinating and at some times heartbreaking to me. It’s a book I think I’d like to read again, maybe more slowly to better feel the passage of time and understand the story a bit better.

I do recommend it though! It’s beautiful and has a lot of emotion and makes me very curious about learning more!!
