I must say this book has my absolute favorite dialogue of any book I've ever read. Sloane & Declan's banter is PRIME. The spice? It's spicyyyyyyy. I cannot recommend this book enough. Read the first one, it's good but this one? WOW.

Declan is dramatic AF and has no idea what to do with Sloan. Sloan is badass and hilarious and delightful on every page.

Stars: four and a half stars
Steam: high steam - multiple kinky scenes with a lot of submission, consensual nonconsent bed play,
Tropes: over ten year age gap, mafia, insta love, antihero, competence kink
For Fans Of: Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole
Theme Song: Far Away Boys by Flogging Molly
Subgenre: contemporary romance - mafia
CW/ TW: bloodshed on-page, reference to sexual assault (not by hero), mentions of miscarriage, mentions of body shaming and self harm
relaxing medium-paced

Sloane and Declan’s banter had me cackling with laughter! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard while reading a mafia romance.

ugh. he’s the possessive but also soft but just for her and that’s my kinda MANN. but i digress. i loved that she was maturely unbothered the whole time and her inner dialogue was 🤌 MWAH. also.. spice was yummy.

Oh boy. 5 bloody stars. five. F I V E. I was not prepared for this book. The thing is: I rated Ruthless Creatures quite low (2 stars, to be precise). Why? Well, even though the smut and banter was Top Tier (as was the general quality of the writing, refined and polished)... I could not stomach the instant love between Kage and Nat. It required me to suspend my disbelief just a little too much. The premise for an intriguing love story with rich, complex characters was definitely there but... being able to stomach a 0 to 100, all-consuming love between our main characters that essentially bypassed 96% of potential character building, was just a bridge too far for me. Nevertheless, I finished it and continued on to Carnal Urges because this series (and author) has been highly (and repeatedly) recommended to me by a dear friend. And I have to say... I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID!!! Carnal Urges had an infinitely better build up between Sloane and Declan. INFINITELY BETTER. It was still quite quick, but it was couched as a much more believable "irresistible attraction and bewildering lust that quickly catapults into more" journey. I felt that both characters were (and I'll say it again because it's just the perfect adjective imo) *bewildered* by their attraction to each other but hopeless to resist, and in some ways, they both seemed curious to follow down that road and see where it could lead them. Moreover, and more importantly: it didn’t feel forced. It came across as very genuine, and all points of contention and tension were mentioned and brought to light in a satisfactory way (e.g. the age gap, Declan's... alternative lifestyle

This was awfullll. I actually liked book 1 so this was such a rough disappointment. Sloane was incredibly annoying to me. The nonchalant, cocky attitude got so old. The smut was garbage to me too. Also the whole: “wait my BFF is dating your mortal enemy so can we just like end this world war 3 because we’re both screwing mafia guys?? K thanks!!!!!” soo stupid.
