I liked this one a lot. The setting is very fairy-tale-esque. The prose paints a vivid mental image of what I'm seeing, though there were a few cringe-y lines (ex., saying something tastes like luck or heartbreak or something that doesn't even have a taste was a little odd to me).
There are a lot of things going on around Evangeline that she has no idea about, and honestly, same. There's not a single thought going on in her head which I like a lot. If I were in her situation, I would've been that easily manipulated, too. It's rare for me to relate to fictional characters, so I was pleased.

I really loveeeee how this spin-off series has similar elements to Caraval but is also able to hold its own. Like we still have the fates and everything but I feel like this series has more of a fairy tale, magical vibe. Whereas caraval was more of a like carnival (obviously), mysterious vibe. I feel like if it was the exact same type of world-building, magic system, etc. it would have gotten old quickly.
But I LOVE the world of the OUABH series, maybe even more than Caraval. I absolutely loved the story curse, and how stories can change, people can’t remember the ending, can’t tell the ending, etc. Loved that. I think I enjoyed the Magnificent North more than Valenda.

nie było to najgorsze, ale duża część rzeczy nie trzymała mi się kupy. nie umiałam rozróżnić co jest głównym wątkiem, co jest pobocznym, dosłownie burdel w chuj. do tego wszystko dzialo się bardzo szybko, przez co nie za bardzo potrafiłam poczuc sympatię do jakiegokolwiek z bohaterów i wszystkie wydarzenia w tej książce były mi obojętne. a szkoda bo pierwsza część książki, która niestety byla chyba najkrótsza, podobała mi się najbardziej i myslalam ze ma ta historia potencjał. ale jestem ciekawa co będzie dalej, więc zobaczymy, może przeczytam drugi tom
