i hate giving books one star, cus i would give it to the bad book and also the book that was just boring.
in this case, i almost died from boredom, first two chapters were so uneventful, i didn't know if it's gonna get to the fucking point.
marlow was annoying at the end, i did not understand his fascination.
my teacher recommended it after reading the plague, but my brother in sweet christ, the heart of darkness is just shit and i cannot give it more stars. i do not recommend, unless you want to suffer through entire read.
i guess it's a deep book and has a meaning, but i do not see it and it's hard to focus on that when everything else is just not enjoyable.

Outdated narrative style. Early account of a white European man’s perspective portraying Africa as a threatening and inhumane place.

Fascinating, terrible vision into colonialism. Of its time, but has a scathing view of the Belgian Congo as a project of pain and suffering. A skewering of the adventure story as colonial literature

This is a bit like Lord of Flies as to what happens to someone removed from civilization. I'm sure it must have been quite the adventure story in its time, plus some philosophical connection between the Romans going to Britain and Europeans going to Africa, but there was too much to get past for me.
I am grateful for the well read audiobook by Peter Walters

It's a very good book, but an extremely pessimistic view of the human condition.
