This has the distinguishing characteristic of being the first book in a long time I couldn't read past the 25 page mark. From what I've read the writing never improves, so I doubt I've missed much. What I did find in the first twenty-five pages of this monstrosity was endless references to 80s pop culture. This was an obvious ploy to pander to that demographic and it obviously worked.

An easy 5 out of 5. A great listen and what a flashback to all things 80's. A really fun idea that is well executed.

A+ for creativity, but oh my god this book requires perseverance. It drags on so long about the quest and sooo much 80s pop culture and video gaming trivia that is boring if you’re not into all that.

What a fun read (er, listen- I listened to the audiobook narrated by Will Wheaton, which I highly recommend)! I was concerned that my total lack of interest in video games would make this a dull one, but not at all. The pace and tone are (purposefully?) much like those 80's films where the underdog teenage kid struggles to come out on top (think Ferris Bueller, Back to the Future- no coincidence, I think, that both of these films are mentioned in the text).
