Meh. Not sure what else is to be said in installment THIRTEEN of a series about an unlikable kid and his selfish antics told in the most ADHD manner possible. Oh, here are a few tidbits:
1️⃣ I lost count of the incorrect grammar of “me and Rowley,” or a variation thereof, at 148. This is a grammar issue my students struggle with and are corrected night and day. This is akin to junie b. jones. I get it. It’s funny and written in a kid voice-except it drives me crazy, too.
2️⃣ Thus 13th installment will be forever checked out of my library for those kids who didn’t purchase a copy of their own at our Scholastic book fair.
3️⃣ This title was a gift from a student. ‘Me and Greg’ don’t usually run in the same literary circles, ya know.

The Meltdown was watered down. I teach 4th grade and enjoyed these books when I was in middle school. One of my students loaned me the new one to read and I cant help but wonder if there was a ghost writer. All of the old elements are there but instead of an over arching story, it reads more like short comics about winter that don’t always sync together. My students still love it of course.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the few non-fantasy/adult series I'm reading, to take a break for the long novels with complex plot and characters, but now I think like [b:The 39 Clues|2921082|The Maze of Bones (The 39 Clues, #1)|Rick Riordan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1385117877s/2921082.jpg|2948317] which grew a pretty large fanbase and more than 30 books and 4 main series . . . I think this series should stop already.
The first few books are really great, with a good plot and some shenanigans. But now it's mostly just shenanigans with more shenanigans, no major plot at all. I know it's a children book, so the characters should not be well-developed or something and even a "plot" at all since after all this is adiary journal. . . though there are still children books out there that intriguing plot and well-developed characters - I hope this series would be like it too, if this still continues.
But still surprising that even Greg is continuing his series ofdiaries journals despite being a lazy guy.

+1 star because the all-female Safety Patrol forced the boys to walk to school on the snow-covered sidewalk and let the girls walk in the clear street.

I loved this book so much, i really wanted to be with them
I'm going for a generic 3 review for this series, balancing the 2 stars (at best) from me and the 4-5 stars from my 7 year old (and my 10 year old who also likes them). My 7 year old has decided he wants to read them all in order so here we are.
Look, Greg is the worst - unpleasant, selfish, mean, constantly moping - he shouldn't be the main character - that should clearly be Rowley with Greg as the sidekick. His home life seems bleak and the situations he finds himself in are a working demonstration of karmic response to his behaviour.
But, both of my boys like them and even my youngest (who is less keen on reading) will sit and pour over these himself so how can I argue with that. I'm never one for discouraging them from reading.
So, you know what you're going to get with these books, there are the occasional flashes or genuine humour along with the more prevalent schadenfreude and kids seem to like them.
Additional: I actually bumped this up to 4 stars as I found it more cohesive and wholesome with less of Greg being a tool.
