A short (less than 60 pages) story with a few grammatical issues but surprisingly good characters for such a short story. If you’re looking for a fairy tale and a quick read, this freebie might be for you.

I've read a lot of faery/fae tales over the last 3 years (and probably since I was a kid, too), and this has got to be one of the most boring.
SpoilerHuman girl+boy get captured by the fae, face some faery trials, get mad at each other because of things they faced individually, make up, and still escape together in the end.
I love a HEA but this was just boring; despite the stakes seeming to be high for the characters, the characters weren't 3D enough for me to root for either of them individually OR together.

FMC should've
Spoilermarried the faery king
, that would've been the more interesting story. le sigh.

also there are definitely editing/grammar errors; this could've used a better editor.

Read this only because I'm a completionist and I'm looking to read the main Thornwood Fae trilogy.

Fairy Ring by Nicolette Andrews is a short fantasy romance about a pair of lovers who cross a fairy ring in a forest and are transported to a fae kingdom. The Thorn King wants them to play his game…can their love stand the tests that he has in store for them?
Fairy Ring is an engaging short story about romance, magic, and temptation. Brenna and Edric are young and in love and looking to strike out on their own. After stumbling into the fae kingdom things take a turn for them. I find it interesting how both characters are tested differently. They both seek to find each other and escape but I find it interesting that they waver. I like that the author does this because it kept me engaged in the story. I’ll admit to that there were moments that I wanted Brenna to stay.
I enjoyed this story and it does have a happy ending/happily ever after. I will say that this book has a few editorial errors here and there throughout the book. Most of the errors show up in the second half, but they are there. Most of the errors do not distract or detract from the overall story, but they do catch the eye.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. The story is good, but it left me with a few questions concerning certain things in the story. What happened to the ring Edric was given? Also, the errors were simple and easily noticed. This is a good story, but just needs a bit of sprucing up. If you are looking for a quick story about the power of true love then this is a good story to pick up.

Fairy tale romance that turns into a psychological thriller

Most fairy tales are about how love conquers all, about love at first sight, about the happily ever that is sure to come if our lovers follow their hearts.

This story travels down the other possible futures, the whatifs, the realities the young lovers never considered. Is their love true, or are they in love with a dream? There are also many elements reminiscent of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
