I gave this a lot more of a chance than I would have almost anything that wasn't a poly romance, and I still almost dumped it halfway through. But it was short enough and had just enough going for it that I'm not sorry I finished it. I had trouble liking the protagonist, especially at the beginning (it was somewhat easier by the end) but I did like many of the other characters, and there was fun and cuteness to be had later on in the book. I'm happy to see a poly romance, even if this was a like-not-love novel for me.

It's just kinda whatever. The relationship doesn't come into play until the end and it's mostly just sex and then serious conversations. Forgettable

I can typically handle the miscommunication trope but this got under my skin bad. Hayden and Buffy absolutely should have handled things better from start to finish and their lack of communication was not cute, despite how hard the book tries to present it as such.
Not disclosing you are polyamorous before hitting on the person trapped in your house is such a red flag. And right at the end they’re still leaving Charlie out of their conversations and forcing them to be the one to initiate about where the relationship is going. At no point does this triad feel like a unit; instead, it always felt like Charlie was the couple’s latest playing. And I mean the straight up refer to Charlie as a playmate and then date-mate! Really?? How about partner? Significant other? Anything that makes Charlie sound like not just a plaything to spice up their life as a couple??

Outside the glaring red flags—which are annoyingly played off as quirky and silly—the rest of the book is flat and empty. None of the characters jump off the page and Elmridge feels incredibly empty. The key to a cozy novel is that the characters and the setting need to do heavy lifting in order to make up for the fact that, often, little to nothing happens plot-wise. That doesn’t happen here. Everything is surface level. Which I may have been more willing to overlook but, once again, the utter lack of adult conversations is so frustrating!

This is everything I wanted in a queer poly romance. Literally everything.

So, there was a little bit of a slow start, around 20% it finally drew me in and it just didn't let go. I missed sleep for this read! The beginning was mostly around Charlie and their feelings around the failed coop.

My favourite part of this book is about 40% realised I had no idea about Charlie's gender, and then I realised they were non binary. Yes, MB MC, Trans love interest, and BIPOC love interest. GAH. The thing is, all that diversity and it didn't feel forced. A lot of books like this feel like you're being lectured on gender and sexuality, on non-traditional relationships. This didn't. This was just a love story, it just happened to be between three people.

Can we also have a pause for graphic sex scene without detailing genitals of the NB MC which is amazing. And also, spicy, so so so spicy.

Honestly I don't think I can articulate how much this is what I want to read. If you're queer and poly this is the love story we've wanted to see by a mainstream publisher.

4.5* for the slow start, but rounded up.
