This was an enjoyable read, like the first two. I liked that it was back in SF on Brooklyn's home turf. It was fun reading about a book-binding class - now I'm dying to take one!

I thought it was pretty obvious that Alice wasn't who she said she was and I wasn't very surprised when it turned out that she was the killer. Gabriel's presence in this one actually added to the plot, so I guess we will see where his story goes. It seems like he's mostly there to add a secondary love interest for Brooklyn. I did like that she and Derek kept getting interrupted - it reminded me of Stephanie Plum.

Over all though, I'm still enjoying these! Looking forward to reading the next one soon.

Enjoyed the first two books in this series but just cannot get into this one at all so I think 3 is the limit for me. DNF @ 25% ish.

Loved the description of book making in this book. I wish there was a place like BABA near me. Interesting revelation about a secondary character makes me wonder where the series is headed long term - lots of possibilities. As in her other books, Carlisle makes her settings sparkle. Looking forward to the next book.

I liked the plot progression in this one, but I have to say our main character Brooklyn really isn't growing very much. Hard to admire a character who keeps her mouth shut about a fake First edition Oliver Twist. Meh.

Brooklyn Wainwright has an enviable life, having grown up in a loving and supportive, if eccentric, family. She is also financially secure, thanks to an inheritance received from her mentor Abraham Kartovsky (whose violent and untimely death was the subject of Homicide in Hardcover, the first of the Bibliophile mysteries).

In The Lies That Bind, the third in the series, Brooklyn is freelancing as a rare book expert. She's looking forward to teaching bookbinding classes at Bay Area Book Arts, even though BABA director Layla Fontaine's unpleasantness is legendary. So when Layla is found fatally shot in her own office, there is a long list of suspects. Thankfully, Brooklyn was not alone when she discovered the body.

But when other accidents happen to people close to Brooklyn, she begins to worry that either she is the target, or some sort of death magnet. Desperate to prove that she is neither, she's unsure whether to be pleased when the sexy, mysterious Derek Stone reappears.

Brooklyn is already beginning to feel like an old friend, and the release of her next adventure, Murder Under Cover in May 2011 is eagerly anticipated.

I really enjoy this series. I love the relationship between Brooklyn and Derek.
