This book is a great story to introduce Goldilocks to kids. It was a little long, and my daughter wasn’t too thrilled with it, but it’s good to have some of the classic fairytales in your library.

6/10 Illustrations were beautiful and the story is consistent with the story I heard growing up but it can be annoyingly repetitive and there is no moral taught (Goldilocks gets away with B&E)

This was a beautiful retelling of this well-loved children's tale told throughout the generations. The story itself is nothing spectacular but the Scandinavian-inspired illustrations and attention to detail make this popular fairy tale stand out. Definitely recommend this adaptation for the gorgeous illustrations.

A beautifully illustrated version of the traditional tale. My only quibble is that the bears are not called by their familial names (e.g., "Baby Bear,") but rather by descriptive names such as "the little small wee bear." Interestingly, when my students referred to the characters, they simply called them Papa bear, Mama bear, and baby bear.

This book had a story that was true to the classic tale, but I included it as a variation because of its illustrations. Specifically, the way that Goldilocks was drawn was very naturalistic, more so than any of the other depictions. I felt that when kids saw her they would be more inclined to imagine the situation as reality, and maybe even put themselves into her shoes more easily, which would give them a different feeling than if they were reading a more cartoonish version.

Brett's illustrations, as always, are ponderously rich and allusive. It can even seem as though there isn't any real need for the reselling of the tale itself, which is, unfortunately, rather uninspired. Wouldn't it be fine to live in a handcrafted environment so saturated with care and detail as Brett's version of the three bears' home?
