I get the hate buy i also get the love. Bitter sweet and gross; this book was captivating.

3.5 stars. I think you’ll either love or hate this book. This was definitely a surprise but I really enjoyed it. I guess I’ve heard so much about it that I went in thinking I wouldn’t like it but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

I found so much of the main character’s commentary hilarious. From her friend who desperately is looking for connection in someone soulless like our narrator to the scathing remarks about her boyfriend and men in general I was laughing out loud at several points.

The only part I didn’t like was the ending. I felt the last 20 or so pages (when she switched to only infermiterol of whatever it’s called) was rushed and kind of boring and I just didn’t like the direction it went. I wonder if Moshfegh just had no idea how to end it. I disliked as well that the main character was just giving up her agency like that. Especially when she seemed so in control the entire time (although maybe that was the point).
