Δεν είναι το πρώτο βιβλίο του Παπαδιαμάντη που διαβάζω στην καθαρεύουσα αλλά ήταν σίγουρα το πιο δύσκολο. Ο Παπαδιαμάντης είναι γνωστό ότι δεν υπάκουε σε κανόνες στο τρόπο γραφής του, υποστήριζε ότι η γλώσσα είναι ελεύθερη να αλλάζει και να εξελίσσεται ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες των ανθρώπων. Δεν είμαι σίγουρος αν όντως ήταν δυσκολότερο ή η νοσηρότητα της υπόθεσης μου έκανε δυσκολότερη την ανάγνωση. Αν δηλαδή ήταν καθαρά προσωπική η δυσκολία. Θα ήθελα να μου καταθέσουν τη γνώμη τους εδώ οι φίλοι του Goodreads.
Εδώ λοιπόν έχουμε να κάνουμε με πιθανότατα, μια από τους πρώτους serial killers που εμφανίστηκαν στη λογοτεχνία. Καθοδηγούμενη από μια λανθάνουσα αντίληψη του καλού και της Θείας θέλησης η Φραγκογιαννού βάζει με ευκολία τα χέρια της στο λαιμό βρεφών και νηπίων. Θηλυκών αποκλειστικά. Δείγμα της κοινωνικής υπόστασης που είχαν εκείνη την εποχή οι άντρες και οι γυναίκες. ( Θυμάμαι τον παππού μου να λέει " γέννησε παιδι" ή "γέννησε κοπέλα" ).
Η σκηνή του τέλους μεταξύ " της θειας και της ανθρώπινης δικαιοσύνης " είναι ίσως από τις κορυφαίες στιγμές του βιβλίου και της Παπαδιαμαντικης παρακαταθήκης.

Horrible translation, perhaps in the original there is the semblance of logic or purpose to any of this, but most definitely not in english.

Just don't read it, the closest I got to entertained (or something really) was with the weird ass honey comb story, really only because, what? why ? Other than that, grandma kills babies because she wants to, blames it on god, does it again, blames it on satan, runs away in the woods, kills another baby, runs away in the ocean, dies. Here, you don't need to read it.

Quite a haunting read that is incredibly captivating. I sped through the book in one sitting as I kept wanting to know what happened. 

At time the translation felt a little hard to follow, but overall you could see the translators intent, and helped to create the atmosphere.
