This was so bad. The writer thought he had the best idea ever and kept going at it, except it was so cliche, so mediocre that it got me really frustrated. It's the most difficult thing to write a good novel in first person about an author writing a novel, and Hall failed at it miserably.

Fight club meets inception. What is real? What is fiction? And how can you be sure? You can see some of the twist coming but its still a good read.
Graphic: Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Gun violence, Suicidal thoughts
An enjoyable book - twists and turns, but a little too predictable. It becomes obvious that the supermarket is a construct of the mind and Frank is in fact Flynn, and so once that becomes obvious you know where the rest of the story is headed. Still, an enjoyable read.
This book started out very simple and had a straight story line like every other book. However, about halfway through, the book took a turn and got very very busy. With all that was trying to be stuffed into the plot, I found I started to lose motivation to continue reading. I did end up finishing the book and if I could explain it in one word it would be “Rushed”. There’s too much going on that makes it confusing for the reader.
The one thing I really did like about this story is when it shifted the focus onto mental health. Mental health is a huge issue in society that does not get a lot of light shed on it, so I appreciated that this book reached out to help educate people in a way that wasn’t a boring science book that not everyone would want to pick up.

My first DNF in years. In the same vein as “Ready Player One,” it’s a badly written tale of a mediocre white male.
Got through 5 of 6.5 hours of this one and returned it. It was not "darkly funny". The author reads the book and he does a nice job on the narration, but the story- not for me.
