Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The protagonist Flynn is dumped by his girlfriend because he can't seem to finish anything he starts. After some depression and soul searching he gets the opportunity to publish his first novel. Only trouble is he has to finish one first.
The outlandish prose had me in stitches and it also rang true. Could really see people talking this way. Got totally wrapped up in the characters and was rooting for Flynn to get it together and succeed. No great character development and slightly derivative (homage?) of Fight Club but still a good time.

Even though I didn’t really like Flynn I was surprised that I wanted a happy ending for him. This book was a roller coaster I really enjoyed it but the ending made me sad

Random Book Challenge #2: so bad i considered reading it ironically.

I'm gonna be so for real: Only 8 pages in and you can tell that Flynn is a douche nozzle/tool and in 2025, I'm not putting myself through reading about a mediocre 24yr old man navigating some horror film plot.

I don’t know what to say I honestly didn’t like the writing at all I think it was pretty badly written but I really liked the concept of it and how it screwed with your mind and I feel like I would have liked it a lot better if it was better written but some of the dialogue was just terrible I really wanted to like it but I was really disappointed which is sad because if someone else had written it and written it better I would have absolutely loved it
adventurous mysterious medium-paced

A surprisingly great book. I'm very glad that I didn't read the synopsis. It's worth a read, even if it's a common story to be told.
dark funny lighthearted mysterious fast-paced

THIS BOOK IS GREAT. Except that you will guess what's happening pretty early on and then you're just waiting for them to catch up. But it's still a good payoff.

I know many people are worried about fan bias when they come looking at reviews for a book written by a famous person prior to their writing. However, I had heard of Logic but have never been a fan or heard his music. So here is my opinion on this writing.
This book gives an amazing look into the life of someone with a mental health issue and brings the situation that some people live in throughout their lives. If you go into this looking through a lens of psychology and mental health, it becomes more enjoyable as a novel and artistic piece. It gives a very accurate understanding of a perspective for a person struggling with a mental illness, and the internal battle that they are fighting from their perspective. The scattered writing style follows the ups and downs of the battle of mental illness and parallels the events throughout Flynn's life and work. If this was what Hall was attempting to portray through his debut novel, then I believe he did a wonderful job conveying the story and message he wanted to put out there.

Bobby Hall first foray into novel-writing was okay. Divided into two parts, the first half of the book is a story that breaks the fourth wall (fun), but also confuses the reader as you try to manage your way through the protagonist's multiple personalities. It's a good idea, but could use more revision. I did enjoy how the story is twisted when part two arrives, but again, more revision could have helped the storyline. Read if you want a psychological thriller that you don't have to (or don't want to) think too much about.
