I liked this one a lot. A bit slow at the beginning, but I feel like the build up was good. I felt for the MC with her anxieties (some parts of the book it too close to home tbh). There was a lot of character development and focus on family. Would recommend.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, @writeinbk has a knack for incorporating horror elements with real life evil that is *chefs kiss*. The way she depicted anxiety with Marigold and loneliness in Piper really authenticated and gave perspective to the characters, although I do feel like sometimes people were too quick to demonize Mari and give the benefit of the doubt to Piper. My only thing is I wish some elements of the story were wrapped up better and a bit more description of the setting to really get us in to that horror atmosphere, and a horror buff like me would have loved a few more jump scares and a creepy cliffhanger but I still thoroughly enjoyed he book and read about 80% in one sitting. I was definitely creeped out the whole time and satisfied my scary/creepy book craving I was going for.

Spoilers:
• If real people were “haunting” them why did the parents never hear anything
• I don’t like how they skipped past both Sammy & Mari hearing the voices and Sammy confirming that Piper pushed her Like they didnt even avknowledge it. Even if they don’t believe in the haunting, I feel like those were significant things
• I feel like the anxiety description really resonated to me, esp when Mari freaked out over the bed bugs. It was very relatable to me
• I wish the ending had more closure or atleast a captivating cliffhanger, it felt like it just ended in the middle of a chapter.
Overall I give it 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh my.

I think it’s impossible for Tiffany D. Jackson to write something that isn’t incredible.

This was CREEPY. I shuddered so many times while reading this. So many scenes where I felt genuinely freaked out.

The plot twist was truly a twist and more horrifying than anything I could have ever imagined.

Marigold was not a likeable character but I don’t think she was supposed to be. She was however very real, very human. She was interesting and I enjoyed reading from her perspective.

Really picks up in the last 80 pages! Worth the build up for a spooky YA book.

I really liked this! The bugs were so unsettling though! I feel like it was a really realistic, terrifying portrayal of mental health and your brain not functioning the way it's supposed to. On top of that, there was a lot of social commentary, talk of drug abuse and what it can do to those around you and in your life. My only qualms with it, were I think the ending was way too abrupt, with a ton of lead up, but then the book just... ending? I also wanted more of the religious commentary. The preacher felt like he was only there to add to the unsettling atmosphere, but I wanted more of it!
