I missed ‘Luckiest’s…’ debut as a NY Times bestseller and only recently added it to my TBR pile because of its pending Netflix run. Honestly, I don’t get the hype. For starters, the main character Tiffani “Ani” FaNelli starts as an awful person and ends equally as awful. There’s zero character growth here. The ending is anti-climactic and seems rushed, like the author had a page count in mind and hastily wrapped up the story once it was met. The twist is predicted very early on so you know what’s going to happen and you slowly plod towards it. And if you think that Tiff gets more likable after learning all the grisly details of the tragedy, you’re going to be disappointed because she doesn’t. We see why ‘Ani’ is an absolute mess but you’re just left with the recurring thought that this woman had 15 years to get help and grow as a person but she’s still the same self absorbed, selfish, insecure high school version of herself. Still, the story could have been redeemed if the writing was…infinitely better. Sadly, it never quite gets there and it makes for an over “just okay” read.

Was waiting for a better ending, something with a little more revenge or even just knowing what that last conversation before the last chapter was.

Honestly a good book overall. I randomly picked it as an audiobook, and am not sad i did. it probably won’t be a book i need to reread in life, but i do like a good book to show / movie transition so im excited to watch the show. it was also easy to track with the time changes between her high school years and her adult life. my only wish was that there was a little more of a jump forward in the timeline at the end to see some of the justice served.

Went into this expecting something different. Did enjoy the back and forth in the timeline, but that was about it. Main character was very unlikeable. Plot went down some weird paths like it wasn't sure what it was doing and not in a kept me on my toes kind of way.

So that was a bit weird. It definitely didn’t take me where I thought it was going too. If you like dual timelines, especially ones that are flashback style and you like a bit of domestic thriller aspect, this would be right up your alley. However, if you need a likable character, I’d stay away from this one.
