Luckiest Girl Alive

dark mysterious medium-paced

Good drama/mystery. Written well; Knoll had a great way of slowly introducing tragedy upon tragedy into Ani's life where I never expected each one. I also enjoyed the alternating perspective of present Ani and past TifAni. I'm glad it ended the way it did, like she really did get her happy ending.

I listened to this book and couldn’t turn it off! Had to binge it in a day.

I think this book does a good job of showing how assault can/does impact people even years in the future and how many women experience it and never talk about it. Even when women do talk about it, sometimes we are brushed off blamed (like Ani’s mom blamed her and didn’t acknowledge she was assaulted).

There were a lot of very relatable concepts in the story and I really appreciated how it was portrayed. Ani wasn’t a very likable character, but she was also angry and holding onto pain from YEARS ago that she wasn’t able to work through. I think that in itself speaks volumes.

So basically I really liked this book and don’t be afraid to share your stories. Even if its in a much less public way than Ani did it.

The main character just annoyed the hell out of me and even at the end she still didn’t redeem herself all that much.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Ani can be annoying at times, but I think that's the point. It definitely hits some hard topics, and I can see how some might feel it is dismissive of the topics, but also people handle things differently. I could see the actions or these books play out in real life.

I didn't have high expectations of the book from looking at the reviews, but did find myself really pulled into the story about two thirds of the way through. The end was a let down, however, as I expected a much darker and twisted ending. Writing was pointed and descriptive, so kudos for that.

I would recommend to people who enjoy unlikable female protagonists who don't mind a so-so plot.
