Finally finished this book after I started it for book club a long time ago. It wasn't my favorite but I have a much deeper appreciation and lense as to why the author wrote the book. I think this is another prime example of how powerful words can be, how it takes time to cope and heal through trauma, and how there are always two sides to every story; so we might as well learn to love yourselves, and be our own advocate.

I listened to his on audible, and the language was a bit rough in places. But I really enjoyed the story. I could relate (in a very SMALL) way to Tiffany, wanting to fit in, to be popular and liked. I am glad that unlike Tiffany (or Ani as she came to be known), I grew out of that and accept me for me.
I always judge an audible book by how clean my house is. The better the book, the cleaner my house as I listen while I read. This book accomplished that, I was always interested to see what was happening next.

I know "Ani". I've known hundreds of Anis. I'm part Ani, too.
Wow, this one hit hard. I don't write a lot of reviews, but this book left we with all the feels. If you're like me, and you're still sad that Gillian Flynn doesn't seem to be writing anymore (not a judgement, just a tragedy), Jessica Knoll will probably make you very happy....in a ragged sort of way. And spoiler/trigger warning, this book deals with rape and school shooting, and not in a glossed over sort of way, so if these things are triggers for you, you may want to skip this one. This book is gritty and painful and rough, and I felt everything Ani was going through on a deep level. This character had no smooth edges, and she shouldn't have. I read the essay at the end of the ebook version where Knoll refers to herself as a "savant of survival", and that is the most accurate description of Ani I could ever imagine. I loved this book so much. And now, I think I need to read something lighter as a mental-health palate-cleanser. :D
Oh my God, I'm so excited that I have found this writer.

This is one of this books that was so disturbing, I couldn't put it down. It was like watching a train wreck and I had to see how the catastrophe ended. The main and tragic events in the book are heart-wrenchingly awful. But it was the emotions and experiences of a young girl trying to navigate a new school and relationships with friends and boys that many can relate to in a way that might resurface uncomfortable memories of being a teenager.
