Laurel and Thorne
This book is fun in a different way than the first. Thorne and Laurel are thrown together with an immediate mate bond. That is a lot for process fir both of them. Both are fiercely independent, but learn to work together and being healing from past trauma.

I liked the first book better but I’m enjoying the world building and I like where it’s going. Contrary to other reviews I actually liked Laurel and was annoyed more by Thorne. I do want to read Ada and Jasper’s story though.
Spoiler
The last half of the book was a bit whiplashy as far as Laurel’s motivations. She goes in to be a badass and kill off Bones but then gets immediately distracted by Thorne’s dick and is fine being a damsel that follows Thorne’s lead. Not a fan of Clarke and Laurel making a plan and their men just saying Nope and them saying Oh OK. Kind of confusing and meh.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes!
Why? Because, Fae, shifter, enemies to lovers, fated mates, grumpy & possessive MMC, feisty FMC, claiming..swoon, GLADIATORS!
And now I realize I've just exposed way too much about myself. Meh. Kinks for days.
Is it spicy? Mildly (relatively speaking)
Is it smutty smut smut? Def not
This is book #2 and you are following Rush's son, Thorne, as he navigates a foretold mating to a human icicle, while also trying to find his missing friend, and oh yeah dealing with all his daddy issues.
Laurel is a strong alpha female from a distant time, but I found her to be pretty level headed. I may be a bit bias considering how much I related to her.
Definitely read the first one, and if it's been a minute like it was for me since reading the first, don't worry - everything will be nicely recapped before chapter 3.
Enjoy!

3.5 —I’m obsessed with Thorne but not Laurel. I couldn’t stand Laurel referring to herself as a “boss queen.” That got cringe very quickly. But despite how annoying Laurel was at times I am still deeply obsessed with this world.

It's just getting better
I think this was my favorite of the series so far. I think I'm really getting attached to all of the Guardians. Cloud intrigues me the most along with the Sluagh.
I have to admit that I could not stand Laurel or Thorne for the first half of the book. Laurel was too driven and was full of motivational nonsense for me and Thorne was too angry and felt sorry for himself.
What made me love the story was the other characters and the developing plot. It's weird when humans are the bad guys in a story but humans do not treat the Earth as we should so it is interesting. I'm hoping for balance and acceptance as an ending .
