I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. Laurel was annoying and self righteous to the point i didn't like her at all. she never thought of others and paraded around the new world like she knew all.

I was hoping after the first book in the series that we could focus more on the couple in the over-arcing storyline than on just world building, and that's exactly what we got in this book. I felt like we got to learn the characters better this time around, and get a better sense of the Order and how everything will play out.
I liked Thorne and Laurel together. Even though they knew they were mated when they first met, nothing about their relationship was insta love or too easy. It was a slow burn and for that, it felt more real. I'm glad that Laurel was able to get Thorne to let go of his anger, and that he was able to make her feel safe but also let her be strong.
I wish the author give more insight into how these human women really feel about adjusting in this new world though. It is sort of just understood that they get over losing their world and learning about this new one, but we don't get the deep feelings about that. I think it would bring about a much richer story if they're feelings were explored this way. But I'm excited for the next book in the series, to see what happens with Jasper and Ada.

Oh, this was good! Really Really good. I was a bit underwhelmed with the 1st book in the series (just a bit), but this book was perfection. Everything was in the perfect balance. Characters were well developed, the story running smoothly, spicy time⚡

I was a little weary about Thorne’s story. I worried that his anger at fate and his lot in life would get in the way of his future. I can allay a few fears, that yes. Thorne can be a tad bit angry and that anger does get him in trouble with Laurel many times. He doesn’t think before he opens his mouth.
Much like the first book, a young woman awakens c. 2000 years in the future, a future that has evolved dramatically. Laurel was tortured and broken by men but determined to be a strong queen. She is not easily cowed.
Thorne and Laurel start off on the wrong foot as Thorne outright tells Laurel that their mated bond doesn’t have to be physical. He hurts Laurel with his words while Laurel’s attempts to connect with Thorne are thwarted by his high emotional walls.
I did find their haters-to-lovers romance to be a bit tiring. I was hoping for the two to reconcile faster and get on to becoming the team they’re meant to be. The ending was good, with a missing hunter being found, Laurel and Thorne loving on each other, and a new pairing between Jasper and Ada hinted at.
(Perhaps, I’ll read the next in the series but I have many books to get through first)
