I'm becoming less invested. I don't know why exactly. I like shumira tho

Finished up the first story and spins Alita into a different genre. Surprisingly, it feels pretty smooth and fits the character as she’s dealing with her grief. Also, lots of the violence.

Not my favorite volume so far, but there was still some fun to be had here. Alita is now a sports star after the death of Hugo and this has become a sports manga with a bit more violence. Like I said, I didn’t hate, it just wasn’t my favorite. The first chapter was the best chapter in this entire volume.

An homage to old sci fi movies?

This third volume begins with a heartbreaking first chapter, when Alita is losing a beloved person in dramatic fashion.

description

After that traumatic event she needs a change of scenery and feels she has to occupy her mind and her body with something else than hunting cyber criminals.

The book basically turns into Rollerball.

description

Only here it is called Motorball.

And Alita is trying to work her way up from the third league into the top ranks of the game.

When I first heard about it I thought this would be cool. I’m a fan of campy 70s and 80s sci fi movies. And this reminded me of several of them.

And it was indeed fun. But frankly, storywise the previous volume‘s been a lot better.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

This might work a little better in the upcoming movie.

After the previous volume Alita disappears for a while. Ido has spent a month searching for and finally finds her playing Motorball. This is the beginning of her motorball career and her raising through the ranks.

Motorball is a fascinating and deadly sport. I am excited to see where this story arc goes but I am also sad because Ido and her are not a team. I don’t love that they had a falling out and that they won’t talk to each other.

This volume ends with her challenging the current motorball champion Jasgun. I am interested in seeing how the battle goes and how her new teammates work with her.

I loved this manga yet again. This had so much action and I did not expect the betrayal that occurred midway ;w;
