DNF’ed at 80%. I couldn’t for the life of me get myself to finish this. I loved the first book, The Unmarked Witch. So, I jumped immediately into this book. There were some many good things going for this story. I liked the characters from the previous book, and enjoyed having Kirsi’s POV in this one. But Raven, who’s supposed to be the FMC, seemed so flat and vacant in this book. I wasn’t buying Raven and Bastian’s relationship and the sweet moments were weirdly smashed into other parts of the plot. The plot had so much going for it, but for some reason, I was just so bored after about 50% of the way through. I didn’t like how so many bad things just kept happening one right after the other, it made them lose their significance.
I think I would have enjoyed this more reading a physical book vs the audio. The narrator was good but for book two with more POV and characters, it could have been better.
The end of this book wrecked me in the best way possible. Broke my heart and mended it back together.
3.5 Stars- Overall worth the read :)
Only this rating because there were a few spots that the wrong character name was used and it threw me for a loop and I had to reread that section and go "Oh! She meant this person" which isn't really a big deal to me because I easily slide back in to what I was reading anyhow (and again, it was only a couple of spots)- but to others it bothers them wholly. Do with that information what you will..
The second reason 3.5 stars is because I felt that there were plot lines left unfinished for some of the characters, Eden, Kirsi, Atlas ( I REALLY wanted more of Atlas because he was the comedic relief that this story needed since there was so much death).
This book in the duology is written from two different POV's (Raven and Kirsi) and I liked that, though I would have like Bastian's POV mixed in there too, as the main story was about them, however it felt a little split. Maybe Kirsi and Nym should've gotten their own books from their perspectives but I get why this book is the way it is. Kirsi is the most important person in the world to Raven and she has to live with the guilt of bringing her back after she died and sticking her here in this world as only half of herself. Kirsi is figuring out how to live again. Although, I don't really understand what happen to Kir when the books went back together and she walked out herself again
CAN WE TALK ABOUT ATLAS AND TORRYN because I bawled like a baby with Torryn- such a dad and a fierce protector, what a good birdie.
I can't say that I enjoyed the ending because of Willow but what Bastian does for Raven at the VERY end is amazing. The characters made full circles and I appreciate that with their found family and what not. I still don't really understand what happened with Kirsi though.
Again, if you're looking for an easy read (world building wise) then this is it. The mystery of what was to happen at the end was heartbreaking for the characters watching her and I felt that along side of them. Give this duology a shot, it was worth it for me

If you read number 1, obvious you need to read number 2.
This book introduces you to a bunch of new characters as Raven and co traverse the human lands to find a way home to assess the fall out from the ending of book one, then go on the hunt for the coven leaders and grimoires.
It tied up most of the loose ends satisfactorily although I really hope there's a spin off book at some stage with the shifters. Atlas is precious and deserves a happy ending. That is all.

I was in love w the first book. This book was really hard to get through. I loved a lot of the messages & friendships and love but so much of it dragged & was unnecessary I feel. I’d still read any other work she comes out with !
Literally the perfect ending to the duology. This book broke my heart and mended it again. I found myself crying in pain and in happiness. Miranda Lyn is definitely an author I will be buying works from again.
3.5 ⭐️ Definitely not as good as the first unfortunately. A lot probably could have been cut out and it fell a little flat for me, but nonetheless I still enjoyed the last 15%
